He wasn't stupid, that was just Brad giving him shit for being from the midwest. The entire series, he's sleep deprived and hopped up on adrenaline and stimulants. At the end when he runs out of stimulants, his real personality comes out, and he's much quieter and more introverted, hence Brad notices that he hadn't said a word since getting back from Baghdad.

@@rustyshackleford1508 While the show follows the book fairly closely, there are a good number of things changed, removed or given to other people a few examples are, rays rant about pussy being the reason for the war is far worse or Brad having a single tube NVG, The comment about how gay they are was given to poke or the pushing of the grooming standard comes from Godfather not Sixta, something the show never mentions is how most of them had a scholarship while some were sports more were academic or the fact Ray was extremely sick the whole time in country and Doc Brian had him on a cock tail of meds or my personal favorite Ray would purposefully drive bad after an argument with Brad even during combat

@JohnNeo193 ай бұрын
Just because their wasn’t WMD’s doesn’t mean the war was fucking bullshit. Overthrowing Saddam Husseins regime was justification enough. Iraq is a measurably better country now than it was before we invaded it. The same can not be said for Afghanistan. So I guess 1-1 ain’t a bad score. Obviously it should have been a lot better and we should have done more nation building to prevent the tragedy that was the lawlessness following Saddams overthrowing. But 20 years later Iraq is a way better country than it ever was under saddam. Plus on his death either his maniac kids would be in charge or there would have most likely been a bloody and brutal civil war for power which would have been worse than anything the US did. So really Iraq was on a warpath no matter what in my opinion because theirs no way the powers that be in Iraq would have let saddams sons take over the government when he died.

@@JohnNeo19 You portray saddam as a bad person, but that still doesn't explain why you lied to the public about WMD's and also doesn't change the fact that saddam was put in power by the CIA.

@@KaisAli-s4r WMD story was actually a massive CIA blunder. I saw it from a documentary few years ago, the WMD source blatantly told the journalist doing the interview that he lied to the CIA because he fucking hated Hussein and wanted him overthrown. But that doesn't clear the politicians because I'm pretty sure they didn't give a shit and were looking for any reason possible for killing Hussein.

The many comments by Marines and Army vets on the many clips around youtube say otherwise. They got actual Recon Marines who lived those events not just as advisors but as actors in the series. Rudy Reyes who played himself, Jeffrey Carizales and Eric Kocher who both played Marines from Assassin Company.
@queuedjar45784 ай бұрын
@@spirz4557 The one main criticism is that the book is largely written by Evan Wright who was a journalist embedded with these marines during the invasion. I'd say that's mostly valid as he wouldn't have incredibly intimate knowledge on some specifics in the Marine Corps, and likely just focused on the human aspects of everyone in the unit. Journalists also are often there for the story so may put particular emphasis or attention on things to weave into a story rather than leave them as convoluted as they likely were in real life. But from what I know talking to people involved in OIF and knowing some Marines today, the events of the show aren't entirely unbelievable. What the show gets really right is that basically everyone is in the Marines, so you get a clash of a ton of personalities all along for the ride of helping operate a multi billion dollar death machine, and that war is dumb as fuck in general.
