I've been riding for 16 years and I have the same helmet/jacket combo. The exo-r420 is a seriously good helmet for the cost. The only dislike I have is the center latch can be a little cumbersome to open with gloves on. Other than that, it is equally as comfortable and relatively the same weight as a $400+ helmet. Very stable aerodynamics, a little noisy, and the ventilation is OK, but good enough for me. For $150 it's a steal, especially for the Snell rating. The eclipse is a jacket that looks really good and functions as it should. You'll need under layers for anything under 75F though as the mesh breathes very well.

I am on my second pair of TCX riding shoes, great buy. Comfy and waterproof. Not to hot on hot days and with a warm sock perfect for cold days. For the jacket I think a Icon Overlord would be best, it has the liner for colder days, return home later in the evening. Got the Overlord, Merc Stealth (cold days) and Mesh AF. Best trio, all Im missing is an Aventure kit for those extreme temps but aint there yet.

About helmets, there is also HJC CL-17 if you are on a tighter budget. Pretty much the same features like Snell ratings and about 30 USD cheaper. Love the channel btw. ❤️

The CL-17 is great for those with a rounder oval head shape. We find most of the American market here has more of an intermediate oval head shape, which is why we featured the Scorpion. -DrewZilla

Most of the SS gear feels like costume gear instead of really protective, and the Oakland jeans don't have a pocket for hip protection. If you're going to take a cycle gear house brand, you're better off with the Bilt jeans. They have hip protection. I was wearing Bilt chinos in a 50 mph crash on the freeway, and didn't have any breaks or abrasions. If you like style, also try Icon MH1000 jeans.

@@thecappy I actually haven't thought about that. You may have saved me from future stupidities. Thanks.
@lancew67744 жыл бұрын
What Cappy said 1st. But frame sliders or full engine guard/cage (if that's your style). When (not if) you drop it the 1st time, you'll thank yourself, cuz repairs eat $$$. Also get your bike dialed in for your fit. I.e. preload, levers, gear select, etc. And learn maintenance on basics. Finding a local shop or class is well worth the investment for life-long knowledge. Lastly welcome to riding, stay safe.

Why not chose a helmet that is tested with a five star rating, HJC got a few...
@RevZilla4 жыл бұрын
SHARP ratings only apply to the helmets specifically sold in the UK. Those can be different than the helmets made for the US market, even if they appear the same. In this beginner guide as well as our helmet guide, we feature helmets with DOT/Snell or DOT/ECE ratings. -DrewZilla
@Vessekx4 жыл бұрын
RevZilla, if they’re ECE-rated, and have a Sharp rating, they’re the same helmet. Sadly, it’s the lack of a DOT rating on most of the Sharp-tested helmets that makes the site hard to use in the US, since a DOT rating means nothing across the pond.
