I don't think it ever will - people love these sounds so much that we'll find a way to retain them. There's a lot of buzz about synthetic fuels, there are legit people who believe that EV cars are reaching saturation point and what will actually catch on is new kinds of fuels, which means ICEs will remain around for the foreseeable.
