And that delicious fight isn't just a hat-tip to Howard Hawks, but an amusing metaphor on the limits of enlightenment. Imagine a vaxer & anti-vaxer in contention. Or a CRT debate. (But for that one, roles would be reversed...)

Michelle Yeoh vs Zhang Ziyi in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" - two scenes, first is hand-to-hand during the theft of the sword, later its a variety of weapons vs sword. I'll admit the hand-to-hand is more like dancing than fighting, but I could watch that on a loop until the day I die and not get tired of it, and it successfully shows the experience of the older fighter vs the energy of the younger. And imagine the hours of practice it took to gain the skill to carry off the weapons scence! Modern Hollywood can't do anything like that!

The final fight of Kill Zone: SPL between Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung is probably the best "emotional" martial arts action sequence ever. There's no dialogue between the 2 characters before they start. They just go at each other in a brutal and riveting climatic scene that makes you feel the hatred between them and all the emotional build-up of the film erupts on the screen. Not to mention the music really sells it too.

Bond and Red Grant on the train in Russia From With Love. The camera work is outstanding, so far ahead of its time and had a huge influence on many action films that came after it. Especially the The Bourne Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum which contrary to opinion actually borrowed a lot from the early Bond films before the Daniel Craig films borrowed from them. It's claustrophobic, violent (especially for the early 60's) and leaves you at the edge of your seat.

Yuen Woo-Ping has to be up there as one of the absolute legends when it comes to movie fight scenes. The genius behind The Matrix, both Kill Bill films, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Drunken Master, Danny The Dog and of course Kung Fu Hustle. Kung Fu Hustle in particular I feel deserves props for its incredible fight scene with the three masters and the harpists, the latter which was a true feat of marrying Hong Kong choreography and big budget western technology (Stephen Chow wanted the film to be a American co-production namely to get access to Sony's state-of-the-art sound design for that sequence, and it shows).

The final "real" fight in Rashomon. I love how pathetic all 3 of the main characters are after all the lies, bravado and scheming in the 3 previous versions of the fight/murder. The most objective viewpoint is simultaneously the most tragic, the most chaotic and funniest; and by extension the most human scene in the whole film. Yet another fantastic physical Mifune performance in this scene. It's the kind of scene that makes me think, yes, this is really how humans fought and killed each other in history; or at least how it felt to fight and kill another man for most people.

I’m not sure what my favorite is but I think a shamefully underrated one is the ending fight in “Warrior” I accidentally saw the climax of the fight because I walked into the theater early but it still shocked me the second time. Then at the start of the last round when you know there’s no way Tommy can win but Brendon has to keep fighting him anyway and the song; that fucking song comes in and the movie just starts to hurt.

I’ve always thought the final fight between Spider-Man and Green Goblin in Spider-Man (2002) stands out. In addition to Furiosa in Mad Max Fury Road, Atomic Blonde - Charlize Theron's stairway fight. Also a very new movie that many may not have seen yet, but should if only for the climax, the final jousting & duel in The Last Duel. Something about how Ridley set up and filmed the whole sequence was very unique and had a brutal realism and physicality that I had not seen done that way. Unique angles and framing. Really equals and then surpasses what he did years back in Gladiator.

I meant to comment this when you posted the question, but couldn’t decide at the time; but for me my personal favorite fight scenes are from Unleashed with Jet Li. The first fight after he’s reunited with Uncle Bart and the fight between him and the guy dressed all in white at the climax of the film. There’s something so expressive and animated yet so visceral and grounded about the fight choreography of Yuen Woo-Ping. An honorable mention to the two dok ock vs. spidey scenes in Spider-Man 2 , the first where doc ock has aunt may hostage and of course the train fight sequence.

The fight scene at the beginning of John Wick 3 with the swords, knives and axes. The Wick films always have an increasingly balletic form to the action, and it’s perfect. The burly brawl with Indy and the big guy in Raiders, it’s not easy for him. The opening parkour scene in Casino Royale is also great. The train fight in From Russia with Love is simple and wonderful, with a menacing opponent, definitely setting a precedent for many action scenes to come. Avengers: Infinity War, the Titan Battle: sure, there are a lot of Avengers and it’s full of CGI and it’s big-scope, but the directors do an excellent job of having the heroes work together, utilizing their powers to bring down Thanos. Empire Strikes Back, the final confrontation between Vader and Luke: the stakes are desperate, and the odds are stacked against Luke, but I love him standing up to the Dark Lord anyway.

The 1987 Hong Kong action film A Better Tomorrow 2 ends with a non-stop 9-minute gunfight scene that has about 90 kills. Director John Woo is known for his well-choreographed action scenes, but this one is a bit too much for me. You can search YT to see it. A more well-known and better gunfight scene is of course in The Godfather where the mob boss baptizes his son while his henchmen carry out the bloody deed. The gunfight at the end of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is pretty good too.

No Rod Taylor Vs. William Smith in Darker Than Amber? This instantly means you're going to have to film a part 2 to this, because leaving that out is unforgiveable. Look it up and tell me I'm wrong! That wasn't acting, either - Taylor and Smith were both badasses and just agreed to legitimately go at it full-contact. It looks like a brutal brawl because it IS a brutal brawl.

The Night Comes For Us has so many fight scenes where do I begin? The final fight lasts roughly 10 minutes and it escalates to be the most insane fight I've ever seen. Highly reccomend this Indonesian gem, there are so many fights the film will intercut between them, one scene features three female assassins and it is beyond impressive how stylish and insane the film is. Many compare the film to The Raid films and not just because Iko Uwais is in it...

Ever see the fight scene in 'Planet of the Apes" Charleston Heston is in a cage with another human, and it's as if the director said, " just go in there and be animals!" and the look on their faces is the best face action in a fight ever! 😂. But fights are generally more interesting and creative when they're more realistic.

"I would've... had to kill you." One gets the sense she wasn't entirely kidding there. Watch your comments, folks! The elevator fight in Drive was brief but solid. Even though you knew it was about to happen, it was still pretty shocking.

The Great Race (1965) has one of the biggest pie fights (perhaps the biggest) ever filmed. By the end, all the actors are so adorned with multicolor cream that they all look like Picasso paintings.
