I love all your picks, especially Peter Pan and Pirates! My wildcard pick would be Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I know..not a very popular film compared to others. That said..imagination and immersion is the name of the game. Films like Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Mary Poppins accomplish that to a high level. Honorable mention to Muppet Treasure Island! Characters carefully crafted to be relatable, entertaining and sympathetic. Plots that take you “down the rabbit hole” as if on a Disney dark ride with sensory overload. They are Master classes of storytelling *deep breath* thank you for such amazing content!

Ryno, the first time I took my daughter to WDW in 2007 we each recieved those Tinkerbell Pixie Dust pins. We had some much fun looking for someone to pass on the second pins to. Our last day at the parks, a lady even gave my daughter the second pin because she had played a little game with her toddler while waiting in a queue line. I have her pins in a special place in my pin binder still. I will never trade those away.

I think Fantasia is a great suggestion. We've been working our way through many older movies in preparation for our trip in October and that will definitely be added to the list. My suggestion would be whatever Disney movie was your favorite as a child. For me, and for a lot of folks that was Peter Pan. I think It can go a long way towards getting you in the mind set of a child and ready to discover, or rediscover this magical place. A close second would be Steamboat Willie just so you can remember where this all started from.

Another great show. Ryno since you are such a big fan of the novel PETER PAN and its sequel, I thought you might be interested in this literary tidbit. Before J M Barrie wrote any of the Peter Pan stories, he published a scrapbook of sorts chronicling the adventures he had one summer with Arthur Llewelyn Davies and his three sons. In 1901, the Davies family was vacationing close to where Barrie and his wife were also on holiday. Barrie was taking a break after toiling on a play called QUALITY STREET. Barrie and the Llewelyn boys had numerous pretend “adventures” that summer which Barrie lovingly photographed. These involved a shipwreck, wicked pirates, tiger hunts, forest treks and other such adventures. These boyish frolics would eventually manifest in Barrie’s Neverland. Barrie’s book included a number of photographs with captions that reflected their pretend adventures. He went on to publish two copies, crediting Llewelyn Davies’ son Peter with authorship, and himself only as a publisher. Harvard scholar Maria Tatar includes a reproduction of this book in PETER PAN THE CENTENNIAL EDITION and writes that this work “offers us the first real glimpse of Peter Pan. With its lost boys and savage pirate captain, its protective dog watching over sleeping children, and its mysterious boy described as ‘the sly one, the chief figure, who draws farther and farther into the wood as we advance upon him’ it is the . . .book that gave birth to the boy who would not grow up.” The full title of the book is THE BOY CASTAWAYS OF BLACK LAKE ISLAND, .BEING A RECORD OF THE TERRIBLE ADVENTURES OF THE BROTHERS DAVIES IN THE SUMMER OF 1901, FAITHFULLY SET FORTH BY PETER LLEWELYN DAVIES. One copy was given to Arthur Llewelyn Davies. He claims to have lost it on a train. The sole remaining copy resides in Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. I live in Connecticut and I have seen and held this manuscript. If you are ever in or near Connecticut, as long as you have proper identification, you can visit the Beinecke (Yale University in New Haven) and request to see it. It is a worthy experience for any PETER PAN enthusiast. As to pre-Disney trip films - there were so many and they changed as the children grew up. Of course there were Mickey, Donald and Goofy cartoons. Over the years we also prepped with HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS, SUMMER MAGIC, all the DAVY CROCKETT films, THE RELUCTANT DRAGON, PIRATES OF THE CARRIBBEAN, SONG OF THE SOUTH and yes THE SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON. Thanks for the great show.

My list is for the Magic Kingdom in WDW only, and includes a couple of extinct attractions. "Swiss Family Robinson" (1960), which inspired the Swiss Family Tree House. "The African Queen" (1951), not a Disney film but the inspiration for the Jungle Cruise. "Treasure Island" (1950) for possible influence on Pirates of the Caribbean (you could, of course, watch any of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, especially the first, though it's important to remember that the films came from the ride and not the other way around. "Song of the South" (1946), if you can find it, which inspired Splash Mountain. "The Apple Dumpling Gang" (1975), which, though not directly related to Big Thunder Mountain, does have elements of Old West mining (and I believe the Thunder Mountain queue references the film). "Johnny Tremain" (1957), on which much of Liberty Square is based (when Liberty Square had an actual silversmith shop, back in the day, its sign directly referenced Johnny as the proprietor). "Peter Pan" (1953), source of Peter Pan's Flight, as you discuss in the episode. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937), inspiration for Seven Dwarf's Mine Train. "Cinderella" (1950), for the castle, carousel, statue, etc. "Beauty and the Beast" (1991) for Be Our Guest restaurant. "Little Mermaid" (1989) for the Little Mermaid ride. "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" (1949) for the extinct "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" and for Sleepy Hollow Refreshments. "Dumbo" (1941) for his ride and area of Fantasyland. "Tom and Huck" (1995) for Tom Sawyer Island and the riverboat, though those attractions predate the film and are really more distillations of the book and of history than direct film references. "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" (1954), arguably Disney's greatest live-action film and the inspiration for the tragically extinct attraction of the same name. "So Dear to My Heart" (1948), "Lady and the Tramp" (1955), "Pollyanna" (1960), and "Summer Magic" (1963), among others, that capture the old-time atmosphere of Main Street, U.S.A. and Walt's nostalgia for small-town American life. The "Davy Crockett" television shows and the films that were compiled from them (1950s) for their major influence on Frontierland and for the various references to them found throughout the land. I'm sure I've left out many, but watching any of these before a Disney vacation can increase both the anticipation of going and the fun once you're there.

What to watch before going to Disney? For its importance to the Disney parks, Cinderella would be a pick for me. For favorite movies to make me feel like a kid again, Bambi, Lady and the Tramp, or Lion King. I'm also glad to hear some love for Hook, my all-time favorite movie. ^_^ Also, I did like Nicholas Cage's Sorcerer's Apprentice, but he wasn't the problem I had with the movie. The other guy had the most annoying voice this side of Adam Sandler's Little Nicky. THE ENTIRE MOVIE. Maybe if I'd watch the movie with him muted and the captions on I'd enjoy it better.

So, I have an idea for this show hat could be a two-parter. I think you should do a Best and Worst of Galaxy’s Edge now and then revisit the idea once the land opens. Great topic, and great choices from everyone. I'd put Sleeping Beauty in there too, but that's probably because I'm more likely to end up in Disneyland and I'm also a Fantasmic nerd. :D Also completely agreed on Hook, such a great movie, sometimes I forget it's not Disney! It was the first Robin Williams movie I finally watched after he passed. It took almost 3 years before I could watch him again, but it's one of my favorite movies of all time.
