Hardware-wise, this is clearly the natural and undisputed successor to the Miyoo Mini+ on every level. I’m still hoping for better CFW support though. MinUI is fantastic, but it lacks RetroAchievements support, which is something I really care about, and to be honest I really like having the Japanese edition box art for my GBA games because the boxes were so beautiful and creative.
@AlexT0210Ай бұрын
Retroachievements go against everything that retro gaming stands for. I absolutely will never use that as a primary factor. I want to play my game how I did when I was a kid. Not worry about creating a wifi hotspot and double checking to see if I got awards. Some may enjoy that and the option is there, but it's against the true spirit of retro gaming, imo.
@JaviPlayRetroАй бұрын
@AlexT0210 I personally stand with Alex on this one. I hate being tethered to wifi. Ive tried Retro Achievements, and it's cool, but I just want to play some games. On all my wifi devices I just use wifi for scraping boxart or ota updates or themes and thats all really. But I know im probably in the minority
@AlexT0210Ай бұрын
@JaviPlayRetro appreciate that. I am using wifi on the go -at the moment- only because I have a trash phone that's only good for a hotspot and a better phone that doesn't have the bands my provider uses. But even then on the +, it's not worth keeping the wifi on. All that said, the beauty of our hobby is we can still all do whatever we want and it's all good! Just personal opinions that's all
@swarming1092Ай бұрын
@@AlexT0210 I play at home where I have wifi throughout the house so that’s not an issue for me. I like using them as a way of tracking my progress as I progress through older games I never finished as a kid, like Metroid Zero Mission and Golden Sun II. I suppose I could use something else like HLTB though

I didn't install any custom OS so I'm just playing out of the box but man am I enjoying it. After tweaking Retroarch to my liking, I'm just enjoying all these games on this little brick. Despite all the reviews and research, I was still surprised at how compact this thing was when I actually got it in my hands. At least for me, this is definitely a great companion device to my Retroid 5 and Ally X and also something I can play on the down-low at work LOL.

35:30 yeah and I don't know why wouldn't they hire onion or other team to work on cfw. Sure they will have to pay them higher than they would pay in mainland, but imagine how much more buyers would they get. Complete and perfect tinker less device, just add bios and roma and there you go

i wonder how does the OTA work on the Mini V1-4 if it does not have Wifi lol i do have a Miyoo Mini, and a Mini Plus, AND the Brick. but i never bothered to install CFW on the Miyoo Mini ever since i got the Mini Plus, and with the Mini Plus i never got to install Onion OS since i actually got it before Onion OS was even available for it and just started using it with the default OS lol. the thing i like about the Brick though is that unlike Miyoo's shitty stock OS, the Brick's Stock OS is actually pretty dam good for a Stock OS... it is so good in fact that CrossMix is basically built upon the Stock Brick's OS lol. though yeah i do prefer MinUI on the Brick since it makes it so much nicer and cleaner to use, and ofc it complete its "Analogue Pocket Mini" look pretty dam well tbh.

After my experience with the rg35xxsp, every time I hear 'dome switches' I am very skeptical. They were really stiff and loud. Are the brick's switches lighter than the sp?
@JaviPlayRetroАй бұрын
@clockworkfrustration Yes, they are much softer than the sp. If you have tried any TrimUI products, they're pretty consistent with how the buttons feel and they are very quiet. You can hear them a little in the controls section.

The TrimUi Brick is… okay. Just okay. The buttons are too small and don’t feel appropriate for the types of games you’ll play. The shoulder buttons aren’t very good. Like the name, it’s a little blocky in design. The software is functional, not amazing, but at least it’s usable. The screen seems nice. The front buttons work. While I mentioned they don’t feel appropriate for this type of handheld, there is no major problem with them outside of being small. The device is a fairly comfortable size to play on for a smaller handheld in the vertical form factor. I don’t get the hype about this at all. Yeah, the screen seems decent, but everything else just doesn’t blow you away. The Miyoo Mini Plus is the ideal portable retro handheld IMO if you use Onion OS. The buttons are more comfortable and feel more appropriate. The device feels like something Nintendo could have sold and the software makes you feel like it’s a purpose built game handheld and not a cheap phone that plays games. The stock OS on Miyoo sucks. The regular Miyoo Mini is a bit more complicated. The buttons are better and it’s much more portable, but there is no WiFi so any updates have to be made manually. With that said, Onion OS has been rock solid for a while and this really hasn’t been an issue. The Mini is a bit small for longer use, but that’s not why you carry one. You carry it for 15 minutes here or there when you can play.
@JaviPlayRetroАй бұрын
@@Cujobob Its definitely not for everyone but thanks for your input. For a lot of people Miyoo Mini Plus makes a lot more sense

I have tried MinUI on multiple devices across multiple firmware releases, and in every instance I run into audio crackles/pops playing games. Am I missing something? Are you experiencing the same thing? NES and GB are typically the worst for audio issues.
@JaviPlayRetroАй бұрын
I havent ran into any of these issues myself and Ive done alot of play testing on this handheld. Do you have examples of which games you were playing? Also did you install it correctly and where did you source you roms
@wrtuceyАй бұрын
@@JaviPlayRetro On NES try Donkey Kong Jr. or Deja Vu. On GB try Super Mario Land. The issues I've run into aren't limited to just these titles, but these are the best examples. As far as install, I followed the directions provided by MinUI. Again this is across multiple devices to include Anbernic, PowKiddy and TrimUI. I haven't found a single device that doesn't exhibit some form of audio disfunction.
