Hi, I'm back to share my thoughts after having received my Zuul plus and jamming with it for 3 hours. First off I'll say that the original Zuul is much more transparent with the threshold set higher, around about half I start getting some strange noises out of the plus even with the recommended settings to mimic the original. Not really an issue because it does it's job perfectly and quietly set the lowest it can go before introducing noise, it also is able to achieve a tighter gate on bass. I can't do the start stop riffing, I might need a side chain EQ to feed the key input for that but, it is very tight with release and hold at minimum which I will still count as a win. One final note is that it boosts volume significantly when engaged I'm assuming because it is buffered to account for the fact that you aren't using a splitter. Overall 8.5/10, noise did worry me when I first fired it up but as soon as I found the sweet spot I knew it was fine.

Have you compared this zuel plus to tc electronic sentry no video on KZbin wondering mostly on tone loss or edge attack and clamp speed

Unfortunately I haven't gotten to play on the TC Sentry, but from what I can tell they are fairly close to the Zuul +. I believe they both have a 4 cable method to them. Though on the zuul it has a key in, and through which will read a bit better on if you're playing or not than a regular input jack. I don't really notice very much tone loss on the zuul, and the gate is really tight, but obviously with the release, and hold knows you can make it as tight or loose as you need. Thank you so much for watching!

Great demo. I use the TC Sentry - how would you say these compare, factoring in the programability of the Sentry.

Great question! From what I've seen the zuul + and the sentry are very similar on how you can set them up with cables, but what will set them apart is the program ability of the sentry. That definitely gives it a 1 up on the zuul I would say. I haven't had the pleasure of working with the sentry, but maybe I'll have to try one out for myself in the future! Thank you for watching! Hope I was able to help.

@@HighImpaktAudio Thanks for the reply - yes very useful to know that.

Do you happen to know what the hold and release on the original Zuul are locked to relative to the plus? Debating getting this because the normal Zuul with my bass rig is very good but I can't get the tight start stop thing really at all.

Good question! I tried to do some research on that, and couldn't seem to find anything. I can give you an educated guess that the equivalence to the original Zuul would be to have the hold, and release at a neutral position of 12 o'clock. I will say that the Zuul Plus is an extremely tight noise get. And I've never had an issue with playing the fast, and tight parts that need a quick stop and go. If you keep the hold, and release turned all the way to the left that will be the fastest setting you can use. I hope this helps, thank you for watching!

@@HighImpaktAudio word, thank you. I assumed it was noon on both as well but someone else told me they tried that and didn't think it was that exactly. I reached out to Fortin to ask them so I'll comment again if I hear anything back. Probably picking one of these up eventually, it'll be worth it alone to kick my otherwise useless splitter off my board and free up a spot on my power supply. Also curious if I can achieve a tighter gate on bass

@@HighImpaktAudiothey said 10 clock on both settings is the rough setting to get close to the original.

@@coveryourears3851 awesome! Thank you for letting me know. So the zuul plus can get a good bunch more tight on the gate.
