That's what I like most about you, your not a prog "snob", I, myself listen to a lot of alternative bands, but also prog, jazz, electro, world music, etc. why listening to only one genre of music, I compare that to eating the same thing over and over. Super great video again ! Huge The Cure fan here, was super impressed with this new release...

@@TheProgCorner When I think about it , I've listened to over 500 albums this year. It was hard to pick 100 prog and 100 jazz albums. I forgot to put a brilliant album Mundus Inversus by Federico Calcagno Octet on my lists , brilliant and highly recommend avant-garde, chamber jazz with prog influences.

I understand how hard it is to keep up. I love music in general and remain eclectic. There's a lot that crosses over from yours to mine and there's a lot that doesn't but that's a beautiful thing. Certainly Nick Cave, St Vincent, The Cure, Judas Priest are way up on my love list for '24. I'll dispense with regurgitating your list and mention some worthy listens. Not a crazy list but all are recommended by yours truly. Take a seat and let's go. In random order: 01. Deep Purple-=1 02. Sean Lennon-Asterisms 03. Jesus & Mary Chain-Glasgow Eyes 04. Black Crowes-Happiness Bastards 05. Future Islands-People Who Aren't There 06. The Weeklings-Raspberry Park 07. Four Tet-Three 08. Sweet-Full Circle There, I think that's enough. Just a little something to tickle the eardrums. And was that the shout out to your dog that I was asking about?

Great to see Cloud Cult at the Top here, with their wonderful emotional symphonic folk. Their last album, Metamorphosis, was my top non-prog album of 2022, and this one is on top in my list this year as well. I was not aware of the divorce issue, but it is definitely a most moving, emotional, and inspiring album. They need more recognition. Some others I have among my favorite non-prog this year are Guster-Ooh La La, Bend Sinister-Mostly Great Things, Crowded House-Gravity Stairs, Burton Cummings-A Few Good Moments, Dirt Poor Robins-Firebird, Wrongbird-Don't Quote Me On That, Lemon Twigs-A Dream is All We Know, Kyros-Mannequin and Nick Lowe-Indoor Safari.

The Make Weird Music YT channel turned me on to an artist recently named Brendan Byrnes, who does microtonal dream pop/rock, which basically consists of 27 notes per octave. It’s really cool exotic sounding stuff, but the songs are great and seem like they have an indie foundation. He put out 2 EPs this year called Transfigured Earth I and II. Really great and one of my favorites of the year.

You should check out my nephew Benson Boone's album, "Fireworks And Rollerblades". It's got his big hit, 'Beautiful Things', but the real gems are most of the other songs. I know I am biased, but when I first heard the album I was struck by how layered it was, and how adventurous his approach to pop was. Also, Trevor Rabin's son, Ryan plays drums on my favorite track called 'There She Goes'.

Bluefinger is one of my all time favorite albums so Ill check the new Pixies out (I see Frank around town from time to time, music stores, coffee shops and the indian restaurants and I was worried the new one would just suck). Agree with you on St. Vincent, I think her addiction to loops is holding her back... hire Steve Gadd and mature in the right way already (love her but its the 1st 2 albums not her cosplay of other artists like Bowie). GBV, right on there. I'm saving the cure for a late night listening session. Ill check out the others.

you know, truth be, I wasn't aware of the Craig and Connie's divorce per I'm not on the Patreon and haven't even seen them live for a few years. But now thinking about it and seeing promotional photos without Connie, I follow it. But it's the kind of thing I'm sure Craig and the band don't share that much at this point. But some of those videos seeing their kids and not Connie, it does make some sense. Alchemy Creek is quite good (I am a Force Field is a banger), although I haven't found myself going back to it as much as some of their others. But Love was kind of the same way, and then it grew on me quite a lot.

A lot of this stuff is progressive in the true sense of the word. Prog rock as become a style and most of it is anything but progressive, it's lost it's original true meaning. Richard Thompson especially is part of the original true prog period. The Cure have always been progressively minded. As Rick Wakeman said about Radiohead, 'I'm sorry lads but you're about as prog as it gets'. True progressive music changes as such the so called style of what is now called Prog Rock is anything but prog. I don't know what you would call it but Prog Rock should drop the Prog because it no longer is.
