Thank you for this emotional 'interpretation' of Pärt's wonderfully sad Cantus. What software is ideal to stretch music in this way? I have a 6 minute piece I'd like to stretch to 40-60 minutes.

I would think the second half of Part's Tabula Rasa would lend itself to better effect at 800% slowed down than this canonic exercise in descending diatonic scales.

You cannot mix up Arvo Pärt's devotion to Hesychasm and Eastern Christian Mysticism with buddhist philosophy. Although Arvo Pärt's former and well-known spiritual father - Archimandrite Sophrony - practiced far eastern meditation for a while... But still well done (video & description)!

Its not a mix-up, its a reality, at least those not blinkered by their adherence to / or vanity about their faith, whether it is Christian, Buddhist, etc, realize that prayer is but a form of meditation, regardless of the Religion or its dogma. These latter style Part pieces are about inducing a state of meditation / ecstasy via a kind of virtual musical stasis.

@@MuseDuCafe I completely agree with you. Buddhism is a syncretic philosophy at heart. "lessthandust" seems intent to pursue a divisive view which, well, you've already unpacked it. I think the Tibetan translation of prayer is simply "wish path". Quite pragmatic & universally applicable. The actual practice of praying earnestly is indeed a form of meditation, requiring single-pointed concentration. The wish to experience Ultimate Truth through devotion, meditation and naturally produced altered states of consciousness (such as through intense prayer or, indeed, music) would be no secret to Arvo Pärt. He isn't a sectarian.That's an insult.

I completely agree with you. The music and its author have nothing to do with Buddhism... Christianity speaks of God and therefore Pärt's music. Nothing to do with the emptiness and nothingness of Buddha. On the contrary, it is about living fully, pure joy and getting closer to who we really are. And we are created in the image of God. Death leads you close to God which is the path of life or far from God which is true death, the latter. Choose wisely and pursue Christ rather than Buddha.
