Anyone in the field will tell you that laughter is often a nervous response. Laughter is not consent. Laughter doesn't mean they are okay with what you are doing. If someone is laughing, yes, they may be traumatized- in fact, I have been in many situations where I’ve been deeply offended and have laughed as a response-- but, depending on context, it might not be reasonable to expect that a person will understand laughters anything but what laughter typically is. David was in the wrong here. He should’ve stopped playing way sooner, but these were all very young adults in the early 90s. Norms were quite different. It’s nothing to pillory someone over.

I'm glad (after all these years) they played the David timeline. It's clear David had many insecurities and anger problems ENTERING this social experiment. People are over-looking the beginning of his Mom diving through GARBAGE, for clothes/items. David needed THERAPY....NOT MTV. But, these MTV execs loooooved the drama. Tami has issues, also (ie; "Basketball Wives" 😐). What we didn't know THEN (as Tami revealed in an interview, later): Tami was kidnapped and violated, BEFORE she was cast on "The Real World". So, this incident was a trigger. Two, broken people....entering a house with strangers and cameras. If anyone is old enough to remember the latter episodes of Season 2, you'd know Tami was a mess, also. IT'S NO WONDER AARON AND DOMINIC NEVER APPEARED ON ANY REAL WORLD REUNION SHOWS; AFTER 1993. Add an emotionally-immature David to the mix....and this is what we get. He should've stopped when she screamed. Even during high school, I was like: "What if she had no clothes on? Was he trying to get a look?" Damn. The first 2 seasons of "The REAL WORLD" really didn't do young, Black men any justice. Kevin Powell (Season 1) was equally-damaged, and projecting his anger and emotional manipulation on others. I was so angry when Kevin used the 30-year reunion as his tool to push his agenda, AGAIN.
