There is something about playing with hardware samplers, so different of playing a synth. Don’t know is just me, but the fact you could have two octaves of vocie choir, one with analog Bass, one key with a dialog from a movie, a bass and a snare drums, and a broken glass, a frog, wind, etc, that make you aproach different to your playing

Ich danke dir. Ich mag den Emax auch sehr. Sehr leicht zu bedienen. Da waren die Emus besser als die Konkurrenz aus Fernost. Aber Alan war ungleich besser mit seinen DeMo`s 😉

Another great synth of the emu family. Always makes me think of depeche mode 101 where they used these and a DX7 FD synth in their rigs. Still sounds great today and is a fantastic machine. Remember Alan wilder showing this on the movie 101 where he gives a demo and says it’s got 36 banks,etc. anyway thanks for showing this in detail and great close ups too. I think the emulator 2 and this one are their best machines with great sounds. I know an emulator 3 and a emax 2 came out, but you don’t seem to hear much about them. Love your channel and work you do, top guy for the time you take to do this for us.

Thanks for sharing! This was my dream sampler when I was in college and couldn’t afford a pair of shoes. It still sounds great. It’s a shame that EMU went under. I can only imagine what awesome sampler they would be making right now.

Q: Again, why did I not try grabbing one of these in 2000 when they were economized enough even for me? A: I didn’t stop to consider everything it’s capable of as both a synth and a sampler (even an economical version of one).

Because in the 2000's, Emu was selling the Proteus 2000 series which is way better than the Emax. And now those are super cheap because romplers are so un-fashionable now. What if I told you you could have all of these sounds for less than $200?

If I wasn’t disappointed that it doesn’t include its own sample inputs, @@activelow9297, it would be a temptation. After having owned the Korg 05rw module and been forced to give it back to its previous owner, I have occasionally imagined that I would like another ROMpler module in my arsenal.

You should try footpedals. It needs a cv expression pedal like a yamaha fc9. I will have to special 9rder m8ne. Also i am using the boss dual pedals.

@@retrosound72 I was just reading the manual over for the s2000. I have a new stand and I now put my s2000 over my 388 and my alpha Juno I noticed there are several samplers it is compatible with. And it says you can send and recieve files from other samplers from other manufacturers. Previously I tried to send samples from the s3000xl to the s2000 over midi. Yes I sent 100 files. But however it renamed the files with numbers and threw out the file names. That's a bit of a problem. So maybe it good for sending 1 or 2 files. Have you done this? I would like to send some of my melotron files to the Emax1 and work with my samples from some vintage instruments in the Emax1 😁😁😁

I’m a little new to samplers, I’ve been wondering what you need in order to use one of these. Do they come with any sounds or presets at all? Or are you supposed to record them and feed them floppy disks yourself? Any info would be helpful!

You can use the sample library and load into the sampler. Or you can any sound sample and edit and store on disc.

yes all is on disc. The OS the samples and the sounds. No ROM in the emax
