@@JessicaMiyukiArt Actually live in Tokyo is costly. Tokyo doesn't have nature so we have to pay for every amusement. Apartment is expensive though. Transportation in fukuoka is very nice and beautiful beaches are near by. I even opend my massage salon here in fukuoka.

Wow, I didn’t realize how modern Fukuoka is! Our family just visited Japan for two weeks in Sep./Oct. We will have to seriously consider Fukuoka next time as my wife is Korean American and we see there is a ferry to Busan. A couple questions: 1. From CA, is flying to Haneda to Fukuoka the best way to get there that you recommend? 2. Are any of the beaches good for surfing or bogey boarding in early Oct. timeframe? 3. Are you fluent in Japanese? I lived in Tokyo for 4 years as a kid and studied abroad there for 1 year of college. It’s amazing how my Japanese comes back when we visit (it’s more conversational level though).
@JessicaMiyukiArt
@JessicaMiyukiArt 14 күн бұрын
For flying, I'm not sure the airport you land before Fukuoka would make too big of a difference because you'll need an additional flight to get there anyways, but you can try looking up flights to Osaka, sometimes they're cheaper than Haneda or Narita, just depends on deals I think. The beaches I went to in the vlog are the only beaches I know of in that area! I wasn't there too long so I really didn't get a chance to see any waves, so you might have to ask around once you're there. And lastly, I'm not completely fluent in Japanese but I was born and raised in Japan so I understand it pretty well and can speak at a conversational level pretty comfortably

You'll love Fukuoka! Hmm, the seasons change pretty quickly, I was there beginning of November and had a few hot days but it cooled down fast towards the end of my trip. Swimming "season" ends usually by September so you won't see many people in the water, but I found it to be warm compared to California in November

@@JessicaMiyukiArt thanks for the info, its helpful. I live in SoCal, so totally understand where you're coming from about Nov in SoCal being too cold to swim. Did you fly into Fukuoka or just take bullet train from Tokyo?
@oatmylkmachiato
@oatmylkmachiato 5 ай бұрын
Swimming season here typically ends around the start of Obon in August because the water becomes infested with jellyfish. Once the jellyfish population decreases, the water is usually too cold, and the sea conditions become rougher, which is why local guidelines advise against swimming. Thus, you won’t really see locals swimming during this time. The only people I see in the water outside the recommended swimming season are foreigners and tourists😅

Hello! May I know what month you went to the beaches? I’ll be going to Fukuoka next week and i’m not sure if we’ll be allowed to swim. Also, are there shower rooms around the beaches?
@JessicaMiyukiArt
@JessicaMiyukiArt 8 ай бұрын
I was there first week of November and there wasn't anyone swimming! No one stopped me from going in the ocean, but just be careful of strong currents. The water temperature now looks pretty comfortable for a swim when I looked at some surf reports. Some beaches have showers but I'm not sure they're running when swimming season is "closed". Typically swimming season in Japan is from July to August (where all the beach huts and food kiosks are up) but some places are a bit longer, if a beach or some destination or beach gear rental shop has a website, they'll usually have "swimming season" listed. I hope that helped!

I went during the first week of November and the water temps were probably around 73-75F, maybe a bit warmer some days! The outside temps dropped pretty quick towards the end that week though.

Hi, just came across your video. I live in one of those places. Did you really have fun here in Fukuoka?🤔I'm curious because here is nothing special compared to Tokyo, Osaka etc...
@JessicaMiyukiArt
@JessicaMiyukiArt 8 ай бұрын
I did! Maybe I have a different perspective since I grew up in Kawasaki. I liked how clean the ocean water was and the beaches were very pretty. Shonan water can be very brown and not clear, and the sand is also very dark and sometimes sticky. My favorite ramen style is also tonkotsu and I like how the food in Fukuoka was different, I like trying food from all different regions in Japan. I think I prefer the trains in Kanagawa/Tokyo area since they are more convenient, but I am thinking about moving to Fukuoka one day, I just want to see peak summer season since I love to surf!
@mokumiki9916
@mokumiki9916 8 ай бұрын
@@JessicaMiyukiArt Oh you grew up in Kawasaki. I used to live in Tokyo. Indeed I didn't like Shonan beach either. Here the beaches are clean so that snorkeling and scuba diving are nice but the waves are small typically. I used to surf here before. Fukuoka is a great place to live, not for sightseeing at least.

@@JessicaMiyukiArt P.S there are no waves during summer. It's so calm. Lol. Typhoon season which is around September and October brings nice swells. Other than that, during winter season is better for surfing.

How were able to book a room with APA? I think we tried to book to an APA hotel once but I believe it was requiring us to input citizen information or something... Can foreigners book a room with APA hotels?
@JessicaMiyukiArt
@JessicaMiyukiArt 8 ай бұрын
Oh really? I don’t remember how I booked it but I’m assuming either through their site or maybe Agoda. I’ve seen foreigners there pretty often so they can definitely book. If you still have issues, try Route Inn hotels, they’re pretty similar to APA with their amenities and locations close to train stations, sometimes a bit cheaper too!
