Runescape is...well aside from pvp and quests, very much a repetitive game. It is the pinnacle of a Skinner Box game. While it has still quite a massive fanbase that is into that sort of thing, it does not make for very interesting content to a general audience. For example, "oh, hey, let's grind out 20 woodcutting levels by mainly afking in front of this tree for 30 hours!" some people will find that interesting, but most will get bored as fuck. Obviously, most people are here for the commentary, but with little actually going on in the game, there is little to actually talk about. Add in that most quests require levels, most grinding would have to be done for those levels off-camera and Dan and/or Arin would spend a shitton of time to even get to the shit that viewers would watch. It is just not a very lucrative game for general audiences. Source: I am maxed on Runescape, have completed every quest, am well on my way to completionist cape, and have spent over 200 full days (according to the website account age timer) of my life playing it over the last 13ish years (i joined in 2006). I have enjoyed it. I have played enough to see why people do not enjoy it.
