I love the moment when Larry is thanking Hank for saving his ass with the dog author in the season one finale, and they admit their faults and how they’ve become lesser friends over the years, and then Hank just says “Just try to have fun with it” and Larry freeze frames just staring at him like it was the most insightful thing he’s ever heard. Such a rare touching moment and a great anticlimax for the final scene.

I watched this show when I was in high school I remember enjoying it. Now, I'm on the last season of a rewatch and the show, which ended 25 years ago, still holds up 100% You could make this show today and all you would have to do to make it work is update the celebrities who appear.

My favorite Hank moment was when he got wasted on banana schnapps and passed out in his office. The next morning he complained his breath smelled like a monkeys asshole.

Hank the most despicable human being who's quite paradoxically very lovable.
@howard59922 жыл бұрын
not really lovable but somewhat vulnerable his insecurity drives him, but he's also selfish and calculating and vain of course he's rather dense as well, which makes him a bit comical it all adds up to him becoming desperate

A viewer from the UK here. That was my favourite show and scene too. Hilarious. "The snake doesn't like Artie". Some clever minds behind that show. Some of my friends didn't 'get it' . I thought it was genius and groundbreaking. Couldn't wait for each episode.

'What part of the show are you going to thank me for all that I've done for you over the years on the show?' The only thing more memorable than Hank/Jeffrey asking Larry/Garry this on the final Larry Sanders episode is Larry/Garry's facial reaction. Twice Priceless.

0:37 I was thinking about this scene earlier and I luckily found it. I can imagine Hank on Celebrity Apprentice. The project that the men's team has is the Jolly Green Giant. Hank could vehemently refuse to be the giant, but project manager Carlos Mencia would demand it. The idea would be that Hank would do even worse than back then. The men would lose and come back to the boardroom. It's Carlos, Hank, and John Heder (Napoleon Dynamite). Donald Trump would know who to fire. "Carlos, what I don't understand is that you knew how bad Hank was as the Jolly Green Giant. Sorry, Hank, we all saw the video. It was terrible. Even back then. But Carlos, this wasn't just bad judgement. It was intentional. You have bad blood with Hank and it's the best way you could get rid of him. It didn't work. This caused your project to fail and you only have yourself to blame. Carlos, you're fired." Later in the season, Hank gets fired and you can imagine how he'll go off in the town car.

The first season is painfully slow, and even Hank can't save it -- though he's the bright spot. Things pick up a lot in season 2 as Hank and Artie become more of the focus instead of Larry, but it isn't until season 3 that the show really hits its stride. If like me, you're finally just now getting into The Larry Sanders Show, be patient. It does pay off, but the first two seasons (especially Larry's home life) have frequent dead air and jokes that don't land like S3 on.
