honestly anime fans don't realise it but goku has been through a lot, but his cheerful personality gives the vibe he hasn't he was exiled from planet vegeta for being a low class (now retconned as his parents sending him to another planet), his parents being killed, his grandpa dying, his best friends dying, nearly being killed two times by enemies and one time by poison, him getting tortured at the tournament, his son getting kidnapped, him getting tortured again, dying for the first time, losing his friends a second time (and yet he manages to keep a strong face), tortured by vegeta, his son getting abused, losing his best friend again, dying to heart virus (in another time), dying to cell for 7 years, his wife, friends (again) and children being killed, his planet blown up all in the course of db to z. goku had one of the craziest character development in anime. from a boy in the woods touching peepee to identify gender to stalling time and passing wisdom and responsibility to next generation

@ m8 any real DB fan absolutely hates the English dub. The OG Japanese version or the Latino versions are way more natural. Also the dialogue on the English version is dumb down to fit western audiences so everyone sounds a little stupider and the insults are changed to something cringe. And yes unlike you.. we actually watched the OG DB before DBZ back in the late 80s not in the early 2000s like you guys did..

I’ve watched the OG DB, Z & GT Series too and I LOVE the Japanese dub for life but the English (Specifically Funimation) Dub is FOREVER GOAT I understand what you mean with the dumbing down but the performances from VA are so good, they overshadow that

@ not sure.. might just be nostalgic glasses for you guys. I came from watching the original .. then I watched the English with a friend who had never seen the show up until that point and we both looked at each other wondering if this was some sort of joke. Kid Goku’s voice and later on Piccolo were particularly insulting compared to the other two versions. Didn’t help that the dialogue was the worse thing I’ve seen in any anime adaptation period maybe next to the English version of Saint Seiya
