My favorite line from Marty was when he, Niles, and Frasier had to pick up Daphne on the floor, and he says, "Daphne, I just thought of something funny: it took three Cranes to lift you!". I remember laughing so hard after that line, I was in tears. Lol

Marty was a true soldier. Fought for his country, defended his city as a detective and raised 2 successful young men. He lost the love of his life and was man enough to stick by her despite her infidelity. Not to mention he took a bullet doing his job which cost him some of the joy of his golden years. It must be hard to have 2 boys who don’t share your interests at all like sports, and are essentially polar opposites of you. Nonetheless, he loved his boys no matter what and helped them immensely throughout the years. He also formed an amazing relationship with a young immigrant and recognized her value. Plus he snagged a girl 15 years younger than him. Marty was a true G. I would be proud as fuck to have Martin as my dad.

So sad John Mahoney is gone now. Martin sure had the best lines. Plus even though Frasier was the one who blurted out to Daphne how Niles truly feels about her in Season 7's "Back Talk", it was really Martin who got the ball rolling. The moment he said "I've kept my mouth shut for 6 years, I'm not saying anything now.", there was clearly no turning back (even though Daphne thought it was Frasier who had feelings for her).

Thank you for posting. I am moved by the production number. I like the quasi tecumseh statue in the corner. We had a neighbourhood bar that had the same statue at the front door as a tribute to Cheers. Thursday night was Frasier then the Red Hot Chilli Pepper Bar to meet the boys. That statue was an icon during the 30 best years of my life. The tribute in the production number was beautiful. FYI I would jokingly tap the Peppers tecumseh statue on the head when leaving for good luck. The boys and girls would meet at the Pepper every grape and wine festival and reminisce about the days of glory. Unfortunate that legend came to an end a few years ago too. I can honestly say I no longer remember everybody's name but i still see a lot of the old faces. Marty was also my favourite character. He kept the bar in Frazier.

@ajk
@ajk 3 жыл бұрын
The best part about this (and this belonged here too come to think of it even if it tied to Frasier more), is when Ted Danson made a guest appearance as Sam in Season 2, they call back to this when they get to talking about him (Marty). The dialogue back and forth between Marty and Frasier in that scene is priceless. "Frasier said you were a scientist." (Marty looks at Frasier incredulously) "You were dead what did it matter?!" Only thing that woulda made that scene better is if they somehow incorporated the Sly character John played into it too. But a classic scene all the same.

R Stevens, you almost make it sound like it should have been the speech Kelsey could/should have given at John's funeral. Beautifully said.

I like to think he considered her the daughter he never had, especially once she got together with Niles. Roz, too, for that matter.

Everyone saw him as a father figure on set (Jane, David Hyde and Peri) he was well liked :) He with David Hyde was also godfather of Jane Leeves son.

Initially I was bugged by the fact that the overdubbed audio in the intro of him singing was way out of key. But then I realised, of course that's exactly how Martin would have sung it too. :)
