Best of Nazrul Geeti by Purabi Dutta is a select compilation for the Bengali Nazrul Geeti lover’s. Nazrul Geeti is a genre of Bengali Songs that originates from the works of the great rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Kazi nazrul Islam who is fondly remembered as “Bidrohi Kobi” was born in the village of Churulia in the Burdwan district which is in West Bengal now. Kazi Nazrul Islam created an avant-garde genre of modern Bengali Songs. He wrote and composed these songs himself. This entire genre was termed later on as Nazrul Geeti or songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Nazrul wrote and composed music for his nearly 4,000 songs. Even while composing a melody Nazrul used many gypsy melodies and scales apart from the typical Indian Classical format. This is what makes Nazrul Geeti so unique and class apart. One can clearly state that Nazrul Geeti was a path changer as far as Bengali Songs are concerned.
