40:20 Lmao. The same year we've had Jawan, pathaan, or all the way back to Ghajni. You're talking as if this is the first time main stream masala films have had a non linear screenplay. Showing violence on screen just for cheap shock value is way easier than actually writing a compelling plot around it and integrating the violence into the story. No where you mentioned the bizarre framing of shots or the laughably bad plot twists or the almost non existent screenplay, especially in the second half of the film. Not to mention the grammar of the film being very clear in who it wants you to root for and how it sees its protagonist. There is noting boundary pushing about a film propagating the same status quo that already exists in society and narratively glorifies it with percussion heavy thumping bgm. This isn't new, we had this in the 80s-90s where every film needed to have a mandatory r@pe scene. Those filmmakers, similar to vanga, knew exactly which audience they were cratering to. This is the problem with interview platforms trying to do film criticism. Can't piss people off toon much nai to interview nai milega. Channel bhi to grow krna hai. What's the point in discussing world cinema and praising its intricacies and meta narratives when you are just gonna play ignorant with our own films?

"When people are criticizing, you are not letting them criticize. But when they criticize, they are exaggerating." WHAT DOES THAT EXACTLY MEAN By dismissing criticism as exaggeration or implying restrictions on it, there's a risk of limiting valuable insights that could contribute to the film's development. Who are you to decide that you are qualified to rate the degree of exaggeration. Just like you who loved the film there are others who did not. Respect the views actually even if you are acting hard to do that.

One think is, suppose we don't question animal because flimmaker is allowed to do what he wants, so suppose in future there comes a flimmaker who one to make a movie on a psychotic serial killer, in the movie the psychotic serial killer r*pes 10-15 age demographic childrens and kills them and he has already killed 25 kids only after then police notice his pattern and whole country if alerted of this psychotic killer and the movie will be him running away from police and keep r*ping/killing kids, and at end he ends of getting away of all crime by pinning his crime on another person, and at end he falls in love with a girl and now he has kids and living his life happily in some hillstation and he still r*pes/kills kids all over the country one-twice in a month going on different places to not get caugh. and he never gets caught and lives life happily and flim ends is this okay to show??? and if not then why not?? and more addition to this:- what if those r*apes/kills scenes are elevated through bgm rather than made from the victim point of view how she is suffeering rather it shows that psychotic perspective how he is enjoying and sexualizing kid and the music also trying to complement and show how he is enjoying?? See I have recently watched animal & I didn’t liked the movie, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t liked it because what it showed, I just didn’t liked it because I have a different kind of taste for action movies. Moreover, trust me dost most of the action movies doesn’t make sense after a point of time but I am not disagreeing the fact that there are things which are not wrong, there is, but I don’t think the type of hype they are creating, it deserves. But in a nutshell, should I think this kind of movies should me made ? Yes Is this kind of movie okay for the society ? I don’t think anybody can answer that, is there any movie which teaches you everything good, there are bits and pieces to inspiration form and then also I strongly believe your upbringing defines what kind of learning you will take from movies, in general everywhere. Nothing can influence you to do wrong stuff, unless you want to do it.

Every person is biased, being diplomatic and diluting opinions to seem objective only emboldens extremists. The movie could have been made even more toxic, sexual , filled with gore and in process made sense as a coherent story. Sadly in this movie, there isn't a story, only scenes put next to each other for 200 mins to satisfy the audience who paid 200 rs to see their dreams play out while hiding a stiffy.

Tbh Rashmika struggles the same way with Kannada words. I thought it’s just the way she talks but then realised it might just be her issues with regional languages cause Vaani correctly pointed out that her English was quite understandable. Overall though, I found Animal quite boring with all that screentime wasted on unnecessary subplots and the constant demeaning of it’s women characters, like every other Vanga film. Ranvijays ‘pelvis’ remark, plus every time he mansplained something was so cringe. Second half got approved despite being shit cause they know anything with this level of hype will sell anyway. And it ofc did.

Let me be complete honesh no matter even godfather's director come and explain me filmaking and say it's a bad film i won't accept it and noty even AVERAGE it was really a strong film and was exactly on the face for the critics and tbh i don't even have problem if the shoe licking scene would have proceeded further and trust me i am saying it being a liberal .The director said this film will mess up with the critics and sure it did but connected with the crowd and so as always audience is the king epople who didn't like the film will find the YES men type critics or people anyways.
@TheGeorgeous Жыл бұрын
You say it isn't a bad film, critics are wrong and then go on to say audience is king and critics don't matter. If a film maker is making a movie to shock critics, he's displaying his low self esteem. When was the last time a critically acclaimed movie made lots of money at the box office ? All the above 400-500 Cr movies are garbage of different degrees. So connecting with crowd, making money and shock value does not mean good movie. In fact he expertly showed how absolute garbage film making can make you such returns in this industry. The actual yes men and the people lapping up this filth as path breaking cinema.
@ArpitSgh36 Жыл бұрын
if you are talking about tiger 3 i will agree but I don't think any 400cr+ movie is a garbage in Indian cinema aur hai hi kitani ? roughly 20 films are there above 400cr they can be average but not starigt up garbage .I would have agreed with your low self esteem argument if Kabir Singh wouldn't had worked but it was a hit too.He really wanted to show the critics their place and surely he did but in a healthy manner the visual representation,sound design and the fking awareness while writing scenes was the best in modern day Indian films. I won't say it was some path breaking film but sure it will revolutionaise Indian film making by showing how grounded action with some mass can work too you don't need to go woth choppy over the top fast and furious sh#t.@@TheGeorgeous

I get Disha not wanting to bite the bait but I would like to hear a sentence or two calling out the misogyny. I would hate for us to completely stop talking about it and have this go unchecked. That's as dangerous as biting the bait, in my opinion. Disha also made the very good point about criticism on these films being extremely important. Her thoughts and opinions were appropriate. I wasn't at all impressed with Vani's false equivalence. The whole fence-sitting, in general, is really worrying. And Hindol's comment about intent was silly and disingenuous. When the filmmaker himself has voiced his views on his films being called out for sexism and misogny, and has gone as far as to say 'I'll show you what violence is', it's not hard to understand he intended to increase the shock value. So, yes, we can judge this movie based on intention. A rubbish excuse.

It’s extremely shocking for me how literally everyone is looking over the lack of even the basics of screenwriting this film executes. Even if one was to look away from everything morally questionable or logically flawed in the film(which in itself would make for a thicker thesis than the screenplay) the film from a technical standpoint, especially and specifically the screenplay, is astoundingly bad. Film begins with a monkey-suck-my-dick-joke that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the plot or the narrative. Events occur with zero absolution. Characters come and go, establishment is restricted to giving them a name. Purposes of actions are unexplained….the list goes on and on and on…. Three and a half hours of runtime, and not even three sentences of a plot to show for it. Vanga may have a cinematic vision, no matter how much deranged, there’s that raw, angst and rustic strokes of creation that might stand a chance with some considerable material, but his writing skills are…..well. If Chekhov ever read the screenplay of Animal, he would probably think the best use of his gun would be to blow his own fucking brains out.
