Most people don't realize that the only reason Reggie betrayed Henry in FTC, is because he had no respect for Henry. Notice how he reacts when Ellie was left behind by Henry. He goes on about Honor and Dignity. And notice how he reacted when you rejoin the tophats with Ellie. Henry earns his respect by defending the clan, and putting his life on the line. Reggie isn't entirely a backstabbing douche, you just have to earn his respect.

Henry literally showed up out of nowhere and conquered the whole airship in ITA. The only reason Reggie didn't betray him earlier is so that he could pin it to an accident instead of a betrayal. He's the only one besides Henry that knows he pulled a Scar on Henry, just so he could become leader once more. We also know that he became the leader after overthrowing the previous leader before himself, so it isn't unlikely that, while he does have a deal of respect for those that can prove themselves to the Toppats, he may also be a little egotistical and willing to take control from leaders who he sees as unworthy.

*FINALLY!* Someone gets it. Edit: To copy paste a comment of mine from another video. Yo mind if I butt in? I just wanna say that, I believe at this point in the story Henry didn't really *do* anything to live up to being a Toppat leader. In the RPE ending we do see him be leader for a while, with a few successful heists but that's just it. There's more to being a leader than just a few successes. In the TCW ending Reginald says that the Toppats value honor and dignity above all else. In T4L ending we see Henry gain the respect of his fellow Toppats when he stopped the government from raiding the Toppat's plans. Also in the TK ending Reg *doesn't* betray Henry but in stead actually pulls him up. Now I know there's the whole multiple timelines to deal with but I believe one thing is consistent in each of them, Reginald, pre-CtM, didn't respect Henry because he hasn't proven himself to be worthy, this causing The Betrayed to happen. Or something like that, I dunno, I just really wanted to talk about Toppats & loyalty.

I agree with Reg in the betrayed ending. Imagine being the leader of the most dangerous clan in the world and your leadership gets taken by a random guy. But Reg doesn't care about his ego that much. He cares about the toppat clan. Because he knew that Henry wouldn't lead as good as him. so he took the opportunity to take the leadership again in the betrayed ending. But as you see in the Toppat 4 life and Toppat king ending. Reginald sees that Henry doesn't just care about the money and honor. but the clan as well. So Reginald doesn't betray Henry because he knows that he will keep the clan up and lead even better than he will. If he really wanted the leadership just for himself. He could just kill Henry when he arrived with the tank in the T4L ending or dropped him in the TK ending. But as he says "But why would i do that? I saw you out there, you put yourself in the line to save the toppat clan. I couldn't think of a better person to lead us." So yeah Altough I'm not sure about his word in the Toppat Civil warfare ending. "Have you no honor? no dignity?!" If it was him taking opportunity to take the clan back or that he actually cares about it I think Reg is a pretty good person minding his own business. edit: (sorry for the paragraph)

Why does everyone say Reginald is hypocritical? Reggie cares most about the wellbeing of the Toppat Clan. He betrays Henry because the clan would probably go to shit, Henry just showed up one day and forced Reginald to hand over the clan. He saves Henry in Toppat King because Henry actually proves himself a selfless leader who risked being captured by the government just to get Ellie and RHM in the rocket. He literally says “I saw you out there,” after he saves Henry. Henry did nothing after he took over the clan, besides learn about their Orbital Station plan, before getting apprehended by The Wall. Reginald wouldn’t see any reason why Henry would be more fit to lead in the Betrayed route, since Henry did jack shit, and in TCW Henry outright confirms that he’s manipulative and selfish, leaving Ellie in The Wall, so of course he would try to usurp Henry. A good leader is better than a bad leader, numbnuts.

Agreed. Reggie, to me, is like that one leader who believes in the ideals of his faction and is willing to do anything to defend it. I understand why Reggie betrayed Henry. I would have pulled a Starscream-move as well if I was forced to be dethroned and have my clan be taken over by some nobody, who doesn’t share my ideals or is not even associated with my clan. Let’s be honest here, in the other endings where Reggie doesn’t any respect of Henry, he would very much backstab him in a matter of seconds given the opportunity if he didn’t earn his respect.

If you check the other comments/replies, basically reggie cares about the clan, henry in ITA just barged in and took the throne, and then asks the toppat to bust him out of the complex, reginald doesnt see him as fit for the leader role, so he betrays him. While on the other ending, he sees how henry risked his life for the toppat clan and seeing him as a better leader. thus earning his respect and accepting henry as the new leader (Just check the replies im bad at wording stuff)

i just found out that Reggie is EXTREMELY strong. if you dont know, Henry weighs 110 pounds. for comparison, Ellie cant even lift Henry with both of her hands, while Reggie can hold Henry with no signs of weakness and can even say his monolog. tl;dr Reggie can lift Henry ( who is 110 pounds) without breaking a sweat.

Despite Reginald being a very deceptive backstabber, using rallies and advantages over direct combat to get his ways, he isn't exactly bad. In fact he's very loyal if you earn his respect. In ItA all you did was spare him (which he never engaged in direct combat anyways), but you technically just barged in and took control. Reginald isn't only desiring the leadership for himself, he believes it's in the best interest of the clan: In Toppat 4 Life and Toppat King (this one especially since he had an easy chance to kill you), you did earn his respect, and you convinced him you were a better fit for the leadership. He cares about the clan's future as a whole and not just himself ("the future of the Toppat clan looks bright with you as our leader", "you put yourself on the line to save the Toppat clan. You've truly earned my respect, I can't think of a better person to lead us"). If he was as deceptive and dishonorable as we thought, why didn't he kill Henry in Toppat King? Why didn't he just dispose of him, since they got what they wanted and the rocket launched, what was the use of Henry? He had a great chance to become leader and no one would know what happened, but he didn't because he was grateful to Henry and you did gain his respect. In the 5th game, all we saw of him was a traitorous snake side, which is understandable since he had such a minor role, and I think people got a bad perception of him then which they carried to CtM. But as CtM came out, it's more visible he has more personality to him and that was just a unique scenario.

@@BerriMura Normally Reggie would mention Henry being a good leader but in the 3:58 part, Reggie says Henry wasn't being a good leader and just dethrones him as the leader due to a surrender and leaves someone behind that helped out a leader. During the Betrayed ending, Henry in this ending was apparently "a bad leader" which is why Reggie threw him off, knowing he wouldn't lead the clan to success than Reggie would.. In the TK ending, Reggie is seen again catching Henry, but this time sees Henry defending his clan, which is why he pulled him up this time. He's only good if you show him good character

The part that turned that joke dark was the fact that literally *EVERY TOPPAT MEMBER IS DEAD* in the aftermath of that ending Which makes me think that Reggie was right..... Reginald betraying Henry would make sense. Being usurped by some random guy that ended up in the Wall would be the perfect reason for betrayal. "Toppat 4 Life" and "Toppat King" and probably "Toppat Civil Warfare" show that he values loyalty to the clan. Henry going to great lengths to protect the Toppats is what Reginald values in a leader. Henry betraying Ellie would show that he's untrustworthy as a leader. So unless Henry proves that he's loyal to the clan, Reginald would betray him.
