That doesn't mean that the round won't tranfer most of the force directly to the body part that it hits. This means that although you are saved from having a hole in your lung, the force of a bullet is still hitting your chest which will almost certainly result in a broken rib. Also since the shot was fired at such a close range, the rounds would be barely stopped meaning that each shot would cause crippling amounts of brusing and pain.
