The moment after Nacho shot himself, at 3:36, you can see a nearly intangible change in Gus’ expression. This was unexpected for him, not the servant he once treated as a dog that should be restrained. Nacho died like a man on his own terms, and no longer had to beg anyone. Gus was shocked but he needed to hide it still. In addition, at 4:21, Gus was walking firmly but his face was serious, dignified, and perhaps… sad, compared to Victor and Tyrus who can’t hide their smirks anymore. This is a great characterization of Gus’ arc: he realized that he mistreated Nacho and now Nacho’s death earned his respect. I guess these two scenes may explain why Gus had a place of respect for Jesse once he realized Jesse’s potential (since Jesse is a second Nacho in a way), and why he did a monologue similar to Nacho’s in his later confrontation with Lalo.

I agree. Even though he'd seen Nacho as nothing more than a tool, Gus couldn't help but acknowledge that Nacho would've successfully killed Hector if he hadn't revived him long enough for the paramedics to arrive. Gus now realized that Nacho hated Hector and the Salamancas almost, or, as much as he did. At 4:32, Gus solemnly gives Nacho's corpse another look before entering the van; it was absolute respect.

@@artistocraaat I always viewed it as Gus using fear as a demotivater. He didn't believe fear to be an effective motivator to get Walt to start cooking in the lab, but he did view it as an effective demotivater to get Walt to stop cooking and to not interfere with the hit on Hank. "I will kill your infant daughter" never struck me as hypocrisy of Gus's words, that was him using fear as a very strong demotivater.

The way Mike is visibly affected by nachos inevitable death was awe inducing. Michaels inept emotional attachment to those that are in the game but are still decent human beings is unparalleled. He cared about Ignacio the way he does Jesse in the BB series because Ignacio carried himself the same way Jesse did. Flawed but selfless. I think after Nacho had died everyone but Hector felt at least some kind of sadness about it, in a way. Earlier in the series Nacho had risked life and limb in assisting the Twins, even with a bullet wound, which would no doubt earn the respects of most people. And respect is valued highly in the Salamanca Family. I couldn't help but see them feel a little betrayed as he voiced his true feelings about the Salamancas, almost hurt. Maybe even feeling as though it was a shame that he died as they used to think highly of him. Gus seemed shaken by Nacho in this scene, especially since he probably though Nacho would go back on his word and sell him out. But as he voiced his sheer contempt it looked like Gus found a kindred spirit in Nacho, bearing the same hatred for that family. Maybe even some sympathy as he walked away. Mike was obviously saddened, he cared for Nacho and even vouched he leave the crime world without consequence. He knew what was coming, and quietly urged Nacho to do what had to be done. Almost cried afterwards. He might've saw a bit of Nacho in Jesse later on.

Nobody was sad for Nacho's death but his father and Mike. Gus was relieved that this loose end was finally tied up, the Salamancas had no more respect for him after he betrayed them and got Lalo "killed". Gus knew that Nacho was not going to sell him but was relieved nevertheless that he didn't do so. Getting his father safe and far from all this madness was ultimately what led Nacho to take that bullet in his head and clear Gustavo so he could keep his word of leaving his father alone. Gustavo is ruthless, soulless and didn't care who he had to use or get killed in order to complete his revenge against the Salamancas.

Amazing that his gaze conveys two things at once: “Are you going to possibly betray me?” and “If you do, I’ll bury your father.”
@sadboitimes9012 Жыл бұрын
At that moment Gus had absolutely no power over Nacho. Mike made a promise to Nacho, and I believe even if Nacho had betrayed Gus and told the truth, Mike wouldn't let anyone harm his father. Also if Nacho had told the truth, Gus would have been executed by the twins on the spot.

Nacho is by far the deepest character with the most amount of pure love and loyalty toward what needs to be done and without regret or remorse.

I like how when Nacho says: "i was the one put you in that chair" Hectors face goes from confused and sad to angry when Nacho says: "yeah your heart meds? I switched them for sugar pills." I think i find it cool because in some games the character get immediately angry before they tell somebody the reason. Edit: for the people who don't know: when i said "because in some games" i was giving an example. I do not think Better Call Saul is a game.

There is something to be said about telling an actor "We need you to display a range of emotion but.. you can move only a finger and like 15% of your face. Cool? Cool."

This is embarrassing, but I was CONVINCED that Nacho was an established Breaking Bad character, who simply had to have survived Better Call Saul. I've no idea how young I thought he looked in BB. All through this arc I kept thinking "hmmm how is Nacho going to survive this time" so this scene hit me like a bag of bricks.
@zeus488510 ай бұрын
So you watched Breaking Bad and still thought he was a character in it? I’m confused
@DavidTMarchand10 ай бұрын
That's exactly it, yeah. I watched BB when it aired, then BCS's first few seasons as they came out. Then I stopped for a couple years. When I came back to finish BCS, I already felt like I had been watching Nacho for several years, which was true, but it got mixed up with believing he had been in BB and interacting with Walter White and everything.
@cristalramirez230710 ай бұрын
I had the same experience, I could’ve sworn Nacho was like Victor, in the background and quiet, throughout BB. So every time he was near death I thought “wait is he actually in BB??” So when he died it also hit me like bricks 😵💫😵💫 Delusional

The best watching experiences are when you feel fooled/shocked. So I envy your experience! I know most fans like to brag "I saw that coming." But I love the exact opposite.

Nacho’s acting in this moment was award winning. His actor was so dedicated to this roll, he actually got shot in the head to really sell the performance.
