As expected, these coolers lasted the longest of any coolers we have tested, under extreme heat conditions. Lid temperatures were hitting 100+ degrees every day, with the darker colored coolers reaching up to 146s degrees
All coolers were pre-chilled for 24 hours and then topped off with fresh ice. Coolers were left outside for the duration of the test, in the lineup as seen in the video. We were sure to space coolers out so that one cooler could not cast a shadow on a neighboring cooler.

This is the first time we have seen a smaller sized cooler beat the Orca 58Qt cooler which has been our top performer for some time now.

I enjoy watching your tests. They do help. I have that same color 40qt Orca, and your ice times are spot on. That's a heck of a test too, in the blazing direct sun on pavement! When I'm on a weekend bender with my friends from Fri afternoon, till Sun afternoon, I can be into the cooler for brews over and over, all day and night, in 90+f and still have enough ice remaining on the way home, that I can forget about it, check it on Tues evening, and there is STILL some cubes floating around in frigid water. (cooler kept mostly in shade on grass though). My friends' cheapo Xmart coolers are needing Ice by Sat afternoon, from the nearest gas station 30min away.

U should look into icehole coolers. Claim to be a 10 day cooler, 100% made in the USA. I believe they are out of kerrville TX. personally liked the cooler used one while in south Texas working in oilfield.

Thank you for your reviews. I'm a Kysek brand follower. Color does make a difference. I only buy white or light colors. 10 days in the back of my truck slushing around in hot Hawaiian weather. Still had ice. The walls are so thick that direct sunlight barely affects it.

Been looking and the 2 tests I would like to see are, first another small cooler challenge with the ORCA 20 or 26, Engel 25, the new Pelican 20 Elite, Canyon Scout 22 Adventure, OtterBox Venture 25, RTIC 20 (if available), Kong 25, and the KULA 5. The next test would be a soft cooler challenge (saw that you had one coming up) with the RTIC SoftPak 20 or 30, Pelican Elite Soft, Grizzly Drifter 20 (when available), ORCA Pod or Podster, Engel Backpack Cooler, Yeti Hopper, Taiga Soft Sided, Techni Ice Cooler Bag, and the IceMule. Have you done any tests using blocks of ice instead of the cubes? I normally freeze water in milk jugs to use as ice and am curious just how long these would last, as I get 4.5 days in a normal 105qt igloo cooler.

Great video, I have two 50 KYSEKs one brown one white. The white last longer due to reflection. I think it would have won, if you had used the white model.

its hard to compare coolers of different volumes. They have different surface area to volume ratios, the smaller the cooler the faster it will run out of ice if it has the same insulation.

David Heiman I wouldn’t buy one , because they only carry a 1 year warranty. I have orca, but have had pelican , yeti , k2 I actually still stand by orca as the best out there for the lifetime warranty having said that k2 is one solid cooler , and cheaper then most.

Steven Pace quality control on RTIC is not good. The skid feet on the bottom come off very easily and the handles do not keep the lid tight.

If you run an orca 58 in white, I bet it will be your go to cooler again. White will always outperform the darker colored coolers regardless of what brand you test. :)

We had the pelican in the lineup actually, but in the 24 pre-chill we noticed the drain plug was malfunctioning.... leaking. We tried to fix it up, but its a stripped screw, so to be fair we pulled it.

I know it's not your job but I would like to know... Will ice last longer in a cooler with the drain barley open so that there's no standing water inside the cooler. Since you have a few coolers that are exactly the same you might be able to test this. I appreciate all the helpful information you've given us so far. Keep up the good work!

Only problem i see with that, because i thought about doing it, is you're allowing your cold air to release and hot air to come in. Like having the AC on and the window open. I could be wrong and may very well be, but that's just my thinking

As a civil engineer, I have wondered about this exact question. Theoretically, the ice should last longer if you drain all liquid out continuously because it should slow the transfer of heat from the insides of the cooler to the ice. Water transfers heat better than air. But the plug should be just barely loose enough to drain, and not loose enough to let warm air circulate into the cooler.

The only real way to compare different brands is they need to be the same capacity. A bigger ice chest of same brand is going to beat its smaller same brand chest if both are filled to capacity with ice.

Hey guys. Love the cooler tests in all your videos. I've got one for you. The expensive roto molded coolers have a large outside and small inside. How about testing and expensive cooler vs a cheap one. Match the outside size of the coolers for the comparison. Then put an extra 2 bags of ice in the cheap one because you can afford to buy more ice when purchasing a normal cooler. I think that would be a fair test, an extra $4 of ice inside a cooler that costs $300 less. What do you think?

I received one for Christmas, and it is "nice". I did the "flashlight test", where you bring the cooler into a pitch black room, and put a powerful (LED) flashlight inside, and close er up. This test will show any areas where they skimped on the insulation. The nice cooler showed no light leakage. I did this with one of my "Igloo legend" coolers and discovered there was no insulation in the lid of the cooler. Pretty shoddy. For the price, I would not hesitate to buy the 22 qt nice cooler.

aeroguy86 they hate yeti. I love my yeti with a passion. Used it all last summer and through my first year of college baseball, with it sitting in my trunk every day. Id have chunks still floating after a week and i refilled it every Monday. That's sitting in a car every day with temps from 95-105 here in OK.

It depends on how much it's used. But yes, you're right, most opt for a separate battery bank/solar setup to power fridge and other accessories. If this doesn't work for you, a roto molded cooler is your best bet. But you'll want to open it as infrequent as possible to prolong the life of ice. Hey Edgar, great question. My gut always tells me yes, it should. But our testing has revealed differently. Check this out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZOphKqHjtNgo7s We tested two identical size Grizzly cooler (one tan and one white) they both lasted the exact same time. We saw the same with two Yetis. However, from a practicality standpoint, I would choose white. Some of these darker coolers are hot to the touch when sitting out in the sun. So, sitting on a darker colored cooler after being exposed to the sun.... sounds painful
