Hmmm, city slickers commenting on farm life. Im 70 and raised on a farm, my life long friend had her 6 yr old son killed by the brother in laws dogs. They found his tongue inside ones stomach and his neck ripped open and broken. So give a previously aggressive dog to another family to kill theirs kids too. Tough call and from experience it costs about 700 dollars at a vet now but that's reality on a farm and deal with it. I wouldn't have put it in a book because you'd have to expect this reaction like asking a liberal about President Trump. She didn't say she ate it too like someone else we know? Just saying. When I was a child, we had a young dog under a year old.He had'teven gotten his adult teeth . He was sooo smart , I trained to do many things. I LOVED this pup ! Unfortunately, my brothers thought it was funny to get Rowdy our dog to latch onto the garden hose, which, unfortunately, caused several hoses to be ruined. I stopped them when I caught them, but found out years later, they continued this bad behavior. When I went away to girls camp for a week, my mother took our dog to the human society because of this. I can't tell you how devastating that was for me. I cried for months about it . Even years later, when it was brought up, I found it impossible not to cry. I swore to myself that day that it was something I would never do. No matter the problem, I would see it through, through thick and thin, to the very end. I can't imagine as a child coming home to see that my mother had killed our dog! It took many years for me to forgive my mother after taking our dog to the pound, I can't imagine the feelings I would if she had killed our dog....😢

Ranchers and Farmers understand what Kristi did. Neither of you know anything about farming, ranching, bird dogs, or bird hunting. My dairy farming grandparents would have thought this was just normal behavior. We are detached from the natural world and where our best food comes from, a family farm.

I love my chickens. I have a rescue puppy. He did play with 1 of my chickens to death. I took the chicken away and put my dog on a leash put him back into his large kennel (horse stall) I kept a training collar on him as he got older he understood to leave the chickens alone. It takes time and devotion.
