As an adult with ADHD, I have something to add about the Cousin bros. ADHD is more common in twins than singlets. ADHD is characterized by an inability to regulate or moderate attention. We either hyperfocus on the things that interest us or have divided attention / struggle to focus on the things that bore us. We are also born with lesions on the prefrontal cortex that limit impulse control. This includes controlling our emotions and expressions. The Cousins bros are twins who were 100% passionate about making a movie, at first, before it stopped being fun and became boring. And those feelings were all evident to the viewer because they couldn't hide the loss of passion in their filmmaking, tone of voice, or body language. I believe that they are my people. Two fellow ADHD boys All of this to say that them finishing the movie is even more impressive if they have the specific developmental disability of ADHD, which can make it hard to finish the projects you start.

When editing with 2 VCRs, it was far more effective to edit using the Pause button, rather than the Stop and Record buttons. Jack mentioned this. HOWEVER, the Pause didn't last forever. So if you wanted to take a break, or stop editing for the day, here's what you'd do: You'd find your edit point on your tape (where you wanted to start recording again) and reset the counter to 0:00:00. Now then, there was an average lag time of 3 seconds of tape between pressing Record and the recording actually starting. So, you'd press Record, then press Pause immediately. You're recording, but the recording is paused at 0:00:03. HERE'S THE TRICK: If you pressed Pause twice in rapid succession, all VCRs would back the tape up 1 second. So you'd press pause twice quickly (start/stop recording), now you're at 0:00:02. Do it again. Now you're at 0:00:01. Do it one more time. Now you're at your edit point of '0:00:00' and ready to edit. I tell you, those were the days... that sucked... but were also great.
@plucky441 Жыл бұрын
@Pocketrocket-pj1us I discovered this process when I hit the Pause button twice by accident while recording TV. I hadn't considered PAL or foreign VCRs. I used this technique on 5 different VCRs from 5 different manufacturers, and it always worked. Early to late 90s models. But, I guess, results may vary. :)

Yeah, the movie is not making fun of George C. Scott it is just calling back to Scott not giving a shit about winning. Given that it was made for a budget of just £600k at a time when the British film industry was completely collapsed, I like the sheer spirit of trying to make epic fantasy with a bunch of sitcom actors and a smoke machine. The car footage is from Death Race 2000 btw.

I'm with you. I have a bizarre fondness for Hawk: The Slayer. It sucks. It's a very bad movie, but... It's corny in a way that is comforting to me, if that makes any sense? I see the formula of a decent movie and a pretty sweet D&D campaign, but the actors don't try, the special effects suck/laughable, the jokes don't work, the story is more than a little janky. And I still kinda like it. It's not even entertainingly bad or good bad, like a lot of sword and sorcery movies were at the time (t*ts, Italians, horrible blood squibs, grotesque special effects monsters that needed to be real, jacked morons with blonde hair helmets), it's just *bad.* It's boring, it's very stupid, it's cheap, and it sucks. @Duragizer8775 Жыл бұрын
@@Edax_Royeaux Theatrical cut of _Star Wars_ -- the version originally seen by audiences in 1977. So no added "Episode IV -- A New Hope" in the title crawl (but I'm sure a hypothetical HD release could contain both versions of the crawl, accessible VIA seamless branching, so the individual viewer could chose the one of their preference). Theatrical cuts of TESB & ROTJ -- the versions originally seen by audiences in 1980 & '83, respectively. Of course, I'd be remiss not to mention the various & sundry sound mixes packaged with all three films. Obviously, the most notable ones would all be included in a hypothetical HD release.
@Edax_Royeaux Жыл бұрын
@@Duragizer8775 Yeah, but which version originally seen by audiences in 1977? There were multiple versions. What is the true original experience of Star Wars? The very rare first cut? Or the wider released edited version? 1977 Visual Differences The earliest visual edits to the original film occurred between the initial release in May and the wider release later in 1977. The edits are minor, but noticeable. They consist of four changes. All of these changes were made before the foreign language prints were made later in 1977 and well before the last good interpositive was struck in 1985. These four shots run exactly the same length. All of them exist in the earliest bootleg video tapes and in the English 16mm prints. The original three effects shots exist in many home video English language versions released during the '80s. None of these shots are found in the Definitive Edition, Faces Edition, or 2006 bonus discs, nor are they in any of the known extant 35mm prints, or Technicolor prints. When the Millennium Falcon is being pursued after taking off from Mos Eisley, the effects shot where the Star Destroyer is shooting at the Falcon was changed. The early version has different explosions and different flashes and looks less finished. When the heroes arrive on Yavin 4, the outdoor composited shot with the matte painting of the temple is recomposited and is not synced the same. It also has an artifact in the image. When the fighters take off from Yavin 4, there is an extra cloud and the shot is not synced the same. It also has an artifact in the image. The scrolling end credits are completely redone with the spacing, both vertical and horizontal, altered, and a glitch in composition at the beginning has been removed. 1977 Mono Audio Differences The film was originally released with 35mm Dolby Stereo and 70mm 6-track audio. Since these were both mastered from the same mix stems, there is little to no difference between them in terms of content. Both feature 4 main audio channels with the 6-track having at least one LFE, channel. A mono mix was produced in June 1977 for exhibition in cinemas with no Dolby Stereo or Surround support, which did contain the following changes in content from the other versions. The majority of foreign language versions use a stereo mix with many, but not all of the mono effects alterations. A different explosion sound is heard when the Tantive IV's reactor is destroyed. A different alarm sound is used as the rebel soldiers aboard the Tantive IV prepare for battle. When R2-D2 falls over after being shot by the Jawas, the thud when he hits the ground is different. Aunt Beru's lines are alternate takes (possibly even a different actress). When Luke and Obi-Wan discover the wrecked sandcrawler, R2-D2 beeps. The stormtrooper who interrogates Luke and the others as they enter Mos Eisley's lines are timed earlier. As Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan, and the droids approach the Cantina in the mono sound version, a Cantina musical cue can be heard. During the search of Mos Eisley for the droids, the stormtrooper's lines have been changed from "Alright, check this side of the street. The door's locked. Move on to the next one." to "Alright, check that side of the street. It's secure. Move on to the next one." More growls are added to Chewbacca that were not present in the stereo and surround mixes. A short beep can be heard when the Death Star's superlaser system is booted up to fire at Alderaan. A different, lower frequency sound effect is used for Alderaan's explosion. When R2-D2 shows the schematics of the Death Star's tractor beam, C-3PO now speaks over the scene, the line being "The tractor beam is coupled to the main reactor in seven locations. A power loss at one of the terminals will allow the ship to leave.". The sound effects for the schematics being displayed have also been changed. This change was later reinstated for the 1985 video release. The line, "We have an emergency alert in Detention Block AA-23" was changed to "Governer Tarkin, we have an emergency alert in Detention Block AA-23", possibly read by a different voice actor. Luke groans when he gets dragged by the Dianoga into the trash compactor's murky waters for a second time. The pipe creaks when it is being bent by the trash compactor walls. C-3PO's line "Use the comlink? Oh my! I forgot, I turned it off." is from an alternate take. As the stormtroopers chase Han and Chewbacca, one now says "Close the blast doors!" before the Rebels narrowly run through. The line "What good will it do us if he gets himself killed?" spoken by Luke is from an alternate take. The heavy echo from Luke and Leia's speech at the chasm is absent. The blaster sound is different when Leia fires it at the stormtroopers. Computer sounds are heard when Luke fires up the Millennium Falcon's targeting system. Luke's line, "So, you got your reward and you're just leaving, then?" is a different take. The speech over the X-Wing's radios have less garble and static, and some lines are from alternate takes. Different, louder sound effects are used for the opening of the X-Wing's s-foils. The line "Blast it, Biggs, where are you?" from the original stereo sound version was changed to "Blast it, Wedge, where are you?" to fix continuity. Porkins' scream when he is hit is cut out. When Tiree's Y-wing explodes, there is an additional explosion sound. This also appears in the 6-track mix. Sound effects for Red Leader's damaged X-wing engine were added before his crash. The voices announcing the progress of the Death Star's journey to Yavin 4 is different.

I enjoy the fact that RedLetterMedia edits their own videos. Not like a lot of these modern-day Let's Players who have a team of editors that make the video on their channel the watchable content that it is and all they do is say, "Editor cut that out, put this in, put an interesting effect at this time of the video, etc...." Honestly it gets to the point that I feel like I should be subscribing and contributing to the editor instead of the 'face' of the channel. Again, something I don't get from any given RLM video because Mike or Jay will not only be in the video but edit and upload it themselves. Sure it means you probably won't get a video until a week after the last one instead of daily, but at least I know the people who are in the video are the ones who get to decide what the audience gets to see in the final cut. Instead of a different editor spending hours making the video watchable in hopes that the Let's Player approves of it and receive little to no credit for their hard work.

I was manager of a video store in 1980 and Hawk The Slayer was one of the biggest renters for months - never saw it myself but always assumed it was a competent film.

It is certainly the movie of all time. There were actors, the camera was filming and in focus, and there was a plot.

Fun fact: the kid in The Kid With The X-Ray Eyes is Justin Berfield, who played Reese in Malcolm In The Middle. He’s mostly retired from acting, having not appeared in anything since 2012. Edit: I wonder if they saw my comment lol

@@hayleylongster4698Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, is also pretty much retired, having not appeared in anything since 2010. It’s actually believed he’s the last holdout in making the Malcolm In The Middle movie. He seems to be ashamed of having been on the show because he has never been to any of their reunions.

If Mike was on this episode he would have pointed out that the taller woman bad guy in the X-Ray Goggles movie was in three episodes of Star Trek: DS9

Back in the day we edited skate videos VCR to VCR, but we had no mixer. So we added music by replacing the audio prong from the first VCR with audio from a Dreamcast. Glorious times.

15:56 From Jay's encyclopedic knowledge, Rich and Mike's ability to reference an actor to roles they played in Star Trek, and Jack's superhuman ability to discern strands of plot, I have to say, RLM is probably one of the most hyper-competent groups when it comes to watching and discussing B-movies. I mean, these hacks have been doing this for over a decade.
