Most people don't realize yield means slow down for a potential stop. As the people above stated, the dash cammer didn't yield, and the officer was already in the roundabout. if the DC was a couple second behind where he initially was, it would be an accident/applying the brakes hard.

My coworker actually witnessed the second incident. He is the second van to pull up to the light, and you can see our company logo. You should - I also think the police should incentivise it - if submitting a dashcam leads to a prosecution and a fine, the cammer should get a small financial reward. Then everyone would have dash cams and everyoen would be too afraid to drive stupidly for fear of being caught on camera. I bought one recently even though in the UK we dont have as many dickhead drivers - mainly in the hope it will be of benefit in case I witness a crash.

@Zach Sabbath Law also isn't that hard. Your own scenario is pretty easy. You can prove there was a hit and run, despite a mental state, and the suspect would be fined for that regardless. Having knowledge of the driver and vehicle, the law has the ability to backtrack Suspect's movement for any legal claims made using public cams. They might catch Suspect stumbling out of a bar just hours before the accident. That's probable speculation of a drunken driver right there, if not factual evidence.

This video reminded me of the time my husband ran a red light in front of a cop. My husband is a terrible driver. The one time he happens to be driving, we were in an argument. He's in the left turn lane at a red light stopped, but then proceeded to run it like it was a yellow yield. Needless to say, he gets pulled over and the cop comes up to him laughing. The cop says, "I can't wait to hear your excuse for that." My husband was like, "Sorry, I got nothing. Just wasn't paying attention. I'm a bonehead. " Cop was off duty and didn't give him a ticket. Now I drive anywhere we go together. 😆

He could have LOOKED before moving. I would have assessed TWICE the fine. And if it had caused him to have to sell his car and wait 6 months before buying a new one, all the better. Maybe it should have been a fine and a 6 month suspension. Only stiff punishment will make people adopt safe behavior. Only removing the privilege will make people pay better attention.

Many years ago before the advent of the dashcam, I was driving up the see my parents with my husband. I wasn't paying attention and was going somewhat over the speed limit. Cop pulled up behind me and had his lights going. I was just about to pull over when this other guy came flying past us. Depending on where you live and if you're paying enough attention, it's easy to tell which police cars are unmarked. In the United States, the easiest way to tell is if there's a spotlight attached to the driver's side door. Other noticeable giveaways: more than one antenna on the trunk and/or roof, chrome caps on black rims, a bumper guard on the front, extra lights under the rear view/side mirrors and either side of the license plates. Common police car makes and models are the Ford Explorer, Ford Taurus, Ford Crown Victoria (a classic), Ford F-150, Dodge Charger, Chevy Silverado, Chevy Tahoe, and Chevy Cobalt (In NYC). First one does not have brakes. Brake light goes on, but car does not slow down. So he cuts across to not rear end the other cars. And from that he tries to run, we can assume he knew about the bad brakes beforehand.

The driver clearly taped the breaks and then decided 'no, I dont want to wait' and started cutting across two lanes to then go straight, because you can see that he almost comes to a stop as he nearly strikes the cammer and *then* goes into the left turn lane and continues on. As long as it doesn't happen to politicians and people in power. In all seriousness, its VERY hard nowadays to get police to find someone that hit and ran, or even have people get caught by police.
