Episdoe 17!
The ninebot One Z was designed to handle off-road action, with its wide tire and torque. But can it really handle trails?
In this episode; off-road impression of the ninebot z10, that is if we can find some real trails.. And micro impression of the Feiyu Tech WG2X. and finally the return of my beloved IPS i5!
the search for real trails in New York City continues; this time we head up to the Cloisters on the Northern end of Manhattan.

I don't board but I do ski - I appreciated the snow comparison - it is also challenging to plot the winding course on Ski's but for different reasons. If you can try renting blades out - ideally the ones with ski release bindings (essentially super short skis). They are great fun and you can get wide ones for the deeper white stuff.

Great video. I ride a Gotway Tesla year round in the northern parts of Norway... Sure there has been some crashes, especially on wet icy conditions, but if you keep your speed reasonably low, no damage is likely to be inflicted on either wheel or driver.
@OWGAC

oh but it is soooo tempting to go faster! this is actually why I still ride my i5 regularly since it has a hard cap on max speed, btw what is the legal status of EUCs in Norway? I am beginning to hear a lot more restiction on PEVs from European countries.
@Mariuander

@@OWGAC so basically, in Norway it's like this: Max speed for any self balancing vehicle is 20 kph. (12.42mph) (Here I'm obviously breaking the law, but there are so few policemen where I live that I haven't seen one in 3 years. Except from when I go to the nearest city. 70 kilometers away. max weight of vehicle is 70 Kg (154 pounds) for any self balancing electric vehicle other than that there are in a practical sense no other rules. Helmets, reflective vests, a ringbell and vehicle lights are advised, but not mandatory. all in all pretty chill rules that aren't too hard to follow. I wish i knew how to code for android, so that by just opening an app, it would automatically connect to my wheel and set the max speed to 20kph, in case I got pulled over while going a "bit faster" than that..

Awesome! Take your time and take advantage of that low speed stability to get comfortable with it. The best advice I heard was a to spread your feet out wide and experiment with shifting your stance and don’t clamp down on the wheel.

I started with both feet close to the wheel, and got a lot of speed wobble. I then spread my feet out and pinch the upper part of the wheel with my knee; what I thought of as making the “pyramid” and the wobble got better. I now try to avoid touching the wheel with the inside of leg all together and is still learning that!

perhaps the problem in braking is as simple planting your feet properly on the EUC it may brake better. You can see in the video your left foot is not placed on the pedal parallel to the body of the wheel.
@OWGAC
@OWGAC 5 жыл бұрын
there are some weirdness with the braking on the Z10, I managed to isolate it as something that happens within the first minute or so when you turn on the wheel, brake will slip during that window. not sure if it is just with my copy of the wheel, but it does happen pretty consistently

Hsiang, be careful with the IPS i5 wheel/frame or fender clearance...I damaged the border when I rammed it against a hidden grass/concrete edge...I had to order the shells from Jason but I haven’t venture its re-assembly....I might be procrastinating it due to unconscious fear of the unknowns when facing putting all together. Nice video by the way...just kidding about the music.
@OWGAC
@OWGAC 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Don’t I know it, I love the i5 for its compact size and weight, however there are just way too many issues; the case is one of them, be careful screwing and unscrewing it open, since the holes is integrated into the case, if you strip the holes it renders the case unusable. That was the problem I encountered. But you’ll have to practice opening it anyhow since if you ever get a flat, its the only way to patch or replace inner tubes.

A great video and really fun to watch , but I do think you have misunderstood the concept of off-road;) A road is a road, and leafs and pot holes does not make it off-road:D Do I think the Z10 is a great wheel, yes. Would I want a Z10, yes. Would I swap my XL for a Z10, no. I like to ride narrow off-road trails, aka not a road, and both the low pedal height and the width of the tire on the Z10 would struggle, but on more wide paths and on looser surfaces the Z10 would be great. I traded my Onewheel+ for the KS 16S. OW is a great concept and really fun to ride, but even the XR hasn't enough range for my taste, and it lacks a lot when it comes to the related issues of speed, power and safety.
@OWGAC
@OWGAC 6 жыл бұрын
The search continues! =D You know I was talking to my coworker last week and we’re trying to figure out where the closest tree is to our office, and sadly none of us could even think of one! I would love the chance to try the XL but with the winter settling in even the hard core uni rider in the city seems to have stopped so no group rides means no chance to try new wheels! I am curious about the onewheel though, aside from the range and nosedive issue, how was the fun factor compare with an EUC?
@Ylte
@Ylte 6 жыл бұрын
@@OWGAC You might not have many trees in NYC, but you do have a unsurpassed cool factor;) We always laugh when the news claims there was a snow storm in NYC, when all you got was 30 cm of snow:) Fun factor between OW and EUC is really hard to judge, because they are so different. Equal in fun per minute, but I'll give the OW the edge on how cool you feel. I'll probably be tempted to buy a OW again if they get a stronger motor and bigger battery.

Great video, love that you put some effort into editing. I own a Z10 and I love it, specially for off-road riding and trail riding. Check out some of my videos. I was hoping this video had some “real” trail riding. That’s where this wheel shines and rises above the rest. The only complaint I have is that I wish the foot pegs where sitting ever so slightly higher from the ground. This to prevent the unexpected “peghittherockorroot” throw-off. If you ever come down here to Florida I’ll show you some good trails and you can see how the Z10 handles soft surfaces. Keep the videos coming and great job.

I wonder if breaking and a bit of the sketchiness downhill is from the foot position of your (i think) left foot. Since theres a lot less contact area there, im really wondering if you can put as much balanced pressure into stopping and controlling it when so much of your foot is off the pedal. Im guessing your right foot is doing a lot of the work when it comes to weight shifts and so on. But i could be wrong as im a beginner. I just noticed when i was practicing, when my foot went out like that (which it did a couple times), i was able to ride, but my (admittedly EXTREMELY limited) control was slashed. But again, this is totallllllllly theory as i dont have the skill to back my words. Im genuinely curious if you feel that may be part of it.

Unfortunately I am not hopeful, as I think they are currently so pressed for production by all the escooter company that they are barely paying attention on the Unicycle front. wort part is that since they own a lot of the self balancing patents, it'll be hard for someone else to come in and try to innovate.

Hi, any hints how to avoid wheel wooble at higher speed? When I ride it comes from time to time to unstable wheel vibrations which makes me scared.
@OWGAC
@OWGAC 6 жыл бұрын
Don’t squeeze the wheel and ride it out. On motorcycle the advice for wheel wobble is always to relax and let it sort it self out and it is the same for EUC. This is why it is good to practice not touching the wheel with your leg as attempt to dampen the wobble at higher speed shakes your balance and actually makes it worst. Also, do not be afraid of a fall, practice falling, fear and panick stiffen you up and worsen your response.
@OWGAC
@OWGAC 6 жыл бұрын
Yea. I am still practicing letting the wheel float. I find that at high speed, sometime the wheel will jerk when i hit something but it’ll alway stabilize by itself. I am still learning how stiff I should keep my feet, it is very interesting to practice.
