The reverend Billy G also uses a hybrid open G on Jesus just left Chicago by using a standard tuning with the A string dropped to a G

Best description of Jack White I've heard. I'd perhaps use the word "bombastic" to describe his approach, as well. Thanks for turning me on to "Death Letter." That's new to me and I love it.

Cool blues song at the end. Is that an Epiphone J 45? Thanks

The Epiphone is an EL-00. It's a cheap guitar but it play great! Staight, confortable neck, good ftret work. I paid about $100 used.

Wow. I just learned how to play. Jesus just left Chicago. Watched Billy Gibbons play live. He didn't play that song in open G. In fact, he played it in standard tuning with the A string tuned down to a G. I'm just saying.

I know Bro. I saw that too. I am not surprised that he uses a hybrid tuning. Thanks for the help!

I'd love a chart of chords in open G. I can find them with some stumbling around, but I'd much rather be lazy. Any suggestions?

I saw the predecessor of this video in this instalment of this topic and since I hadn't had any time yet to try this, I just thought mapping out the cords would be a rather pain, since I'm, of course, not yet fluid in identifying the notes on the higher strings, yet. But it makes total sense to 'see' the cords in their full shape and then identify the 1,3,5. That's so obvious, I'm stunned how I could not see it. And all the while I also learned, the D-shape could be interpreted as a part of a C-shape. Awesome.

random question but as beginner lapsteel player, would you recommend standard "open g" or dobro G to play over these records?
@doubledsrockschool9 ай бұрын
From what I understand, open G on guitar is normally DGDGBD, on Dobro, it's GBDGBD. The 2 are quite different. It might be a bit of a challenge. Let me know if you try it. Anything is possible if you want to put the work in. Playing lapsteel, you would be moving around a bar as opposed to fingering the fretboard, but the two tunings are closely related so it's definitely do-able.

I watched 2 of your videos on open G......choices are subjective,,I don't mind that you take Start me Up over Brown Sugar, wheras the latter is the original and SMU is a reverse of that...but...to ignore Honky Tonk Women, the mother of all open G songs, the only nr 1 charting song I know (please correct me if I'm wrong), but foremost the song that demonstrates open G like no other as you can play the intro without fretting.......with all respect...shame on you (with a big smile)
