Since moving to Branford, CT from the Naugatuck Valley (Ansonia, Derby & Seymour), I can hands down recommend the Stony Creek Village of Branford. I call it a mini Martha's Vineyard. There are tour boats with guides around the Thimble Islands, water taxis to bring you to a natural birding island, the President Taft Summer White House, and in-town there are plenty of shops, coffee & pizza shops, a newly renovated live Theater and a hiking trail that brings you over some tidal marshes. It's a really nice area also with some B&B's in case you want to stay a while.

Southford Falls in Oxford\Southbury CT is definitely one of my favorite places to go. A few miles up route 6 is also the Orenaug Firetower. The fire tower is around 5 stories tall and gives a very nice view of the Woodbury area. Worth a day trip to hit the tower at sunrise and hike the falls afterwards. Also Southford falls is great in the winter, especially right as the snow is melting. Both are short hikes and the start of the falls could even be walked to from the parking lot although it does carry down half of the east side of the trail. Also although very cautious when going, I love the view of Waterbury from Holy Land. The place itself is decayed, abandoned, and over-run with all kinds of litter, but just to go up, park, and take a mid-day panorama shot, it is worth a quick trip. Excellent Work @Love What you Do.

I was born and raised in East Haddam CT and moved away when I graduated high school. I’m now 58 and live in CO, but desperately miss CT and particularly the ocean. At my age the idea of moving back and not knowing anyone is very anxiety producing. Starting over is no small task but I do miss it 😢 Chapman Falls was named after my grandmother’s family. I grew up a few miles from Devil’s Hopyard and have very fond memories. Maybe because of the name, Devil’s, it was always kind of a scary place to drive through at night as a child, coming home from somewhere in the dark. I always thought the boogeyman was gonna get us 😂

I live in Newtown, CT and I walk through the Fairfield Hills with my dogs. It's a peace of history that haunts the town in infamy. There is a brewery in the "asylum park." It's become a staple for avid walkers and sport enthusiasts. I prefer to be known for this area of town then the tragedy that occurred in '12 in Sandy Hook. Most people don't know but Sandy Hook and Newtown are two different towns that share their education and medical emergency services. CT in general is a beautiful state to visit.
