Life is what you make it, sometimes people's reaction to us is a mirror of what we project as a personality. I've lived and raised my family in Connecticut and between how convenient everything is, the mild climate, easy access to resturants, museums, healthcare and sporting events (4 Race Tracks, 2 are NASCAR & the other is frequented by Movie Stars/Lime Rock Raceway), the State runs it's own High Schools which you have to qualify to get in, and you graduate with a State License in a Trade such as Nursing, Machinist, etc.), and Connecticut's very rich History such as the true First In Flight by Gustave Whitehead who flew in 1901, in Bridgeport Connecticut, 2 years before the Wright Brothers did, birthplace of President Bush, Charles Goodyear (Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.), Connecticut is truly an easy and convenient State to live in and raise a family. (Oh, and there's 8 Vineyards some of which have won awards, the Apple crop is famous, and Connecticut is home to famous Yale University, National winning Teams as UCONN Men & Women's Teams and National Hockey Champs at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT....shall I go on?)

I moved from Long Island NY to Connecticut almost 5 years ago. When I got here, most people I met said something along the lines of "Oh my Gaad (yes there is an accent in Eastern CT) why would you come here?? The taxes are insane!". Well it's all relative. Compared to Long Island, especially the North Shore, taxes here are almost chump change, at least in my Northern Middlesex county town. And as bad as the traffic is here it's nothing compared to the NY metro area...once again all relative. The only thing that irks me is the car tax. Actually I'm surprised NY didn't think of that...they get you coming and going every other way. Other than that, life is good here.
@connecticutcoastallife Жыл бұрын
@hallieboy I couldn't agree more! Thank you for sharing. I think people forget that it really depends on where you are coming from. Folks moving here from NY, NJ, or the west coast really think CT is a great deal.

The weather of CT is what I find actually find appealing. I’ve been in Florida since the mid-nineties. The constant heat and humidity, which is worsening every year, has become unbearable. The increasing violent weather has led to our homeowners insurance rates to be outrageous. People think Florida is all about the beach. People actually live here. Things like the holidays - don’t feel the same as up north.
@connecticutcoastallife Жыл бұрын
@kazior6521 CT's weather is nice because as soon as you get sick of the hot and humid, it's cooler out. I do love the four seasons here. I don't think I could handle Florida's weather at all.

I’m the opposite. The only thing keeping me in FL is the love for hot weather. The idea of living in cold weather makes me nervous, otherwise I would give CT a try. The taxes may not hold a torch to our skyrocketing homeowners’ insurance, and everything else in the video sounds about the same.

The great things about moving to, and living in Connecticut is the fact you can live happy, balanced lives and raise your family here with fantastic convenience to shopping, restaurants, history (True First In Flight in Bridgeport Connecticut in 1901 with Gustave Whitehead who flew 2 years before the Wright Brothers, confirmed by Jane's Aviation Standard) and the invention of the submarine in New London Connecticut (now where they BUILD Submarines for the Navy), Art Museums, is the ease of employment. Despite the national movement of manufacturing overseas, Connecticut is still sought after as a "go to" location for manufacturing. My Colleagues in a certain industry describe Connecticut as a "Mecca" for manufacturing and a NYC News Reporter described Connecticut, when covering a weather story, as "a big park". That's quite a compliment from a NYC News Reporter living in an over run & over crowded City. (Which of course also NYC has many things deserving of compliments and notoriety).

Arkansas has all the same taxes and sales tax is actually higher there, which affects the poor disproportionately (they have sales taxes on grocery and services as well). Property tax is higher in CT so payments and rents are higher, but people in most of AR are seriously poor. Northwest AR has a similar cost of living to some areas of CT, and prices for goods are no worse in CT. NWA's traffic is absolutely horrendous compare to CT, because of growth vs lack of infrastructure in that corner of the state over the last 20 years. I'll take CT winters any day over AR summers which are miserably hot and humid. Don't even get me started on the differences politically.

I thought it was going to become something like a version of Seattle on the East Coast, but boy was I wrong! I hate the homelessness. I hate the poverty. I hate the high rents. I hate the litter. They tore down entire neighborhoods and they replaced them with NOTHING for FIFTY YEARS. And anything that other towns would bend over backwards to keep, New Haven tells them to f**k off. And I hate the fact that we had a mayor for years who would flail his arms and scream in his little high voice "WE'RE AN ARTS TOWN!!", and I have to drive out to Orange or Branford just to buy guitar strings. And I absolutely hated it in the 90's when alternative rock came every where BUT HERE, especially since I was trying to start a band and I had no takers nor any place to play. Now that I'm doing stand up there's nowhere to play. Great "arts town" we got here. At least not one the police weren't trying to shut down. The 90's is when I saw most of my friends leave the city, and I was stuck here taking care of my aging parents. It was like I was Max at the end of the Road Warrior being left in the wasteland, watching everyone drive away. I did manage to spend some time in Colorado and in Las Vegas. Both of which weren't bad. But I came back here, and I'm thinking that was a mistake.

Connecticut is definitely a ruff diamond of a state and mainly due to it's exorbitant goverment bureaucracy. Doesn't help when the majority of Connecticut residents are wealthy so the state doesn't mind squeezing them for that gravy train that feeds that bureaucracy. So I think if they cut away the pork and reorganized their governmental approach Connecticut would again shine brighter then most New England states. People in Connecticut are a mixed bag as is everywhere and sometimes just depends on your demeanor and expectations. Most afluet people are juggling a million things and don't have time for pleasantries. The roads are to be desired as is all of the northeast for the aforementioned reason. The landscapes of Connecticut are breathtaking and the history is vast. Education and Healthcare are top notch and the opportunity to have competition from neighboring states is a plus as big states tend to box you in where unless you live on a borderline you can't take advantage of the same opportunities as in the northeast. So if you want to take advantage of New Hampshire's no sales tax, its a short drive as are Boston and NY primetime areas for entertainment, so in other words you pay for all those opportunities in different ways. You can take weekend vacations without breaking the bank or go on vacation within a short drive to the multiple islands surrounding the area. To me other then the weather and the aforementioned New England is the best place to live and visit ✌🏽🇺🇲

But if you know how to relate to others without causing self absorbed issues these you might realize there is really a lot to enjoy especially during the warmer months.many festivals and fairs , mostly good for disabled to get around. Many places to take in the arts of all kinds and a very rich history with lots of good doctors and education we even have been voted best pizza in the country several years in a row now. Ask the locals where all the interesting places are that's the best way to really find out not the visitor sites or guides.😊😊

From Stamford, moved to Litchfield County, Ct. - it's like the Midwest, friendly people, a different atmosphere. The rude people in Stamford are from New York/ New Jersey, not Ct. natives. I lived in Connecticut for 37 years and in 1992, when they first started imposing an income tax, that was the last straw for me. I moved to Florida. I liked the low property taxes. In Florida, there is NO tax on your vehicle. Just the normal regisration fee. In Connecticut, if you own a brand new car that's still worth a lot, that tax can hurt. Also, rents and houses are cheaper down here. Not as much as they used to be, but still less. As you said in your video, the trade-off is that we earn less money here. As far as the weather goes, yes it's hot here from May until October. 90+ degrees every single day. But I get around that, I stay inside where it is air-conditioned during those months. However, I did the same in Connecticut but did it November to March to beat the cold.

If you have a masters+ education or a STEM/economy degree…you’ll be alright. ❤ I’ve lived around the country and I love CT over all of them. Utah and Virginia comes to a close second. Weather: it’s pretty predictable. northeasterns are once in a blue moon and roads close. Jobs close. Other states I’ve lived at have northeasterns every other weekend (like Colorado) and they don’t plow the roads or give you delays or give you the day off. People: we are hard to get to know but when we get to know you and form a bond, that’s a bond for life. We aren’t fake. We don’t say “bless your heart” and mean to cause you harm. We mean what we say. Also don’t like drama…..and I think that’s not the same for other states.

It's just an expensive place and little redeeming qualities for the cost. I've been in CT for 6 years now, moved here from upstate NY. Connecticut is a very beautiful state (as long as you stay OUT of every city), but the quaint little village towns aren't anything you cant find anywhere else. That's just what CT is, a place that offers everyday things you can do anywhere else and usually for cheaper if you just move. If Connecticut stopped re-electing the same liberal politicians and actually focused on affordability and dropping the cost for the middle and working class, it would probably be a decent place to live.
