One of the best videos so far, and for a reason, this has been one of the fewest lessons where you go beyond the design endpoint and step into the priniting and realisation field, pretty much from A to Z crash course on packaging design... 💪

Golden Rules of Package Design 1. Design must express the brand and the product 2. Design needs to be tailored to target market of the product 3. Consider context of the package design use 4. Design should stand out from the crowd 5. Ergonomics: the user-friendliness of the package design 6. Eco-friendliness

I like the packaging we use here, banana leaf tied up with bits of leaf dried into string ..... but I think you may have seen this already ;-)
@SatoriGraphics2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I've eaten my sticky rice out of that packaging many times. I hear that the other kind of leaf is legal there now lol. The kingdom seems to have done a full 180

Great topic! Thanks! I was asked to work on package design (once!) and where I got stuck was in creating the dielines. Do you always try to start from a commercial template? If you can’t find a template do you use special software? How do you go about testing your package prototype with the right thickness of cardboard?? Thanks again for consistently great content and broaching this (hard) topic. (And WHEW! Thanks for toning down the frenetic movement!!)

I’m a designer working in robotics realm of packaging industry. We have a full time packaging engineer who does those things at my work. Before we had him, we used suppliers like International Paper. Now we use a Kongsberg cutting table with Esko ArtiosCAD Software. He can even export 3D models that I UV Map and put graphics on in Cinema4d / Adobe suite.
@janesmith96282 жыл бұрын
@@BradNesseth Yes, interesting, thanks. I was told I needed a "Structural Designer" to help me out. But I guess some Graphic Designers have learned enough of those skills to do simpler packaging projects(?) I did find a site that offered diecut packaging templates (especially good for newbies I guess.) Sounds like you have an incredible setup now so you can do just about ANYTHING with the CAD software, Adobe Suite and a Kongsberg cutting table! WOW! Thanks again for replying and the tip about suppliers like Intl Paper.

@@janesmith9628 I'm a graphic/motion designer. We hired a packaging engineer to create packing samples. I don't know anything about creating the dielines and such.

Based on this video, I'd say it's very important to make designs that are recognisable and on-brand, but what if the company you're making a design for doesn't have an established visual identity for any of the brands they have? (Recommending making one for them isn't an option, I have tried - something something time, money) It gives me the impression it's more about impactful designs in the shortest time possible than identifiable design - how does one succeed at making a successful design under these circumstances?
