@@GimiBsk Agreed. Fortunately, I'm not in graphic design, but if I were, I'd be concerned. With these new language models becoming highly self-learning, similar advancements will apply to graphic design, particularly in packaging. These models will learn to optimize the balance between design, quality, reorder conversion, and more. If I were in graphic design, I would shift my focus entirely to learning how to train APIs. Once I mastered that, I'd identify a niche within the graphic design space and develop an API that caters specifically to that niche.

Project Manager at a corrugated packaging company here! Love the video and how you clearly break down each step. I have watched a few of your videos and they are all very well made and give a bunch of great info; you're very talented! Another question that may be important to ask the client is how they are going to be distributing these packages. Remember that freight/delivery is not always kind to packages... There is a potential that the lighter design may get scuffed up through transport (Kraft material wouldn't show this as much). But the beautiful print on the inside--what a lovely surprise when a customer opens up! I've seen where some designs are very basic Kraft (brown material) on the outside and white on the inside, where you can really showcase the design and make a great experience for the end user. Another point to consider when designing for print is trap lines. If printing using flexographic technology, the orange and the pink will need a trap line--as you stated, there will be movement during the printing process. A trap line is when you bleed a lighter color into the darker color (think about 1/8 inch) so you don't have any white gaps peeking through. One last note... "cardboard" is sort of a derogatory term in our business 😉We use the word "corrugate". Just had to share! Would love to connect if you had any questions about printing/corrugated packaging!
@abiconnick Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words and the points you made, will definitely take them onboard 😊had no Idea that carboard was frowned upon 😂 from this day forward it shall be know as corrugate! Appreciate you taking the time to leave these points will certainly help in the future!

Nice design and process! The reason why you see most competitors using the brown cardboard box with a single color print is simple - cost. While stunning, your design will likely triple the cost per box because it is a multi-color double-sided print. It also means the packaging is less sustainable since it uses way more ink. Usually you see this type of premium packaging design in retail packaging, where it's a lot more important to stand out amongst the crowd, but for wholesale/online delivery it becomes mostly unnecessary and just eats into the margins, as the purpose of the box is to protect the product during shipping. Ultimately though it's up to the client to decide if that additional cost and the risk of being perceived to have excessive packaging is worth it.
@abiconnick Жыл бұрын
Good point! I realised this after designing it 😅
@karliskrisjans43942 ай бұрын
The thing is that online you sell the expectations/image of the product, not a physical product a customer can check on hand, based on the visuals and reviews. So, its a super valuable asset to add more value and appeal to your product listings to showcase how the packaging looks. It may as well be a gift to someone, and you want a great packaging for that.

Love to hear your thoughts on why you're not designing them in CMYK color mode? Wouldn't it affect the color when you send them off for printing?
@abiconnick9 ай бұрын
Great point! So usually I would design the brand's visual identity in rgb then if they request packaging, switch to CMYK and adjust the colours to match, but this brand was just a fictional so nothing was printed (aka I forgot to design the packaging in cmyk). But what I would add, is more printers are coming out with the functionality to print in rgb which in certain circumstances saves the need to convert the colours to CMYK.
@HaHaha-pg5nm4 ай бұрын
@@abiconnickfor a 9+ designer, it's weird that you forgot to convert to CMYK. Plus, you confuse the beginners who find your video and copy every step. I suggest you be more careful about these if you really want to help the other artists. And I don't understand these types of clips just for fun, but you are not following the almost exact steps as if it was a real one. I mean...sure, it's fun, but it is not realistic, I want to see your process, it is more helpful for me to see how you handle some things. And the print subject is very silent in the designer world, almost everyone does things for fun and no one explains to you what to do...the print thing is very hard and confusing for the beginners...

I feel you've failed to consider using the box in the real world, practical environment. Whilst the logo looks great where is it on the outer lip of the box, for most manufacturers I believe that will be the point at which the box is sealed closed and whilst clear packaging tape could be used, many sellers are preferring the eco-friendly paper tape with water activated glue, which is just going to cover the key points, at the only place that they are on the box!

I for sure think it's doable but for brand design I'd recommend Illustrator over anything else as it's industry standard and it's a vector based program. Hey abi! Where do you see graphic designers in the next 5 yeara? Do they have to know coding, video, branding, kinda everything?

Very good question! I've been thinking of making a video on this! I think AI will change the design industry a lot, but not in the way many people think in terms of replacing us, one think I will say is those who fail to adapt (just like the businesses who ignored the internet in the 90's) will struggle the most!
