Thank you so much I was wondering why people kept telling me to use rough paper but once they saw that I began originally with printer paper! And my art is fantastic

"I'd rather make those textures myself"... That is what's been bothering me about choosing paper for charcoal! Thank You for articulating it for me!

I am so glad another artist likes smooth paper for charcoal! I like to create my own textures in a drawing or painting. I always feel like I am fighting the texture on a heavily toothed paper.

@@LIIantonioIIL I recently tried charcoal on super smooth paper intended for pen and ink. Loved it.

Totally agree with you on using smooth paper.. Just a heads up paper is not archival . It will eventually turn yellow and become brittle in time.. If your creating a master piece and want it to last for yourself or a client consider Arches paper or canvas..

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am not a big fan of the structured pattern that charcoal and watercolor paper give when I attempt portraits. This has been very helpful.

The Daler Rowney is a 220 g paper. Tried to find out what the gram weight of the Strathmore paper is, but couldn't find it anywhere. Since it is called the 400 series, does that mean that the weight in grams is 400? How do you go about when framing your paper drawings?

So for charcoal drawing I need glossy smooth paper? I tried to draw shades but my shades not moving, dont have blurry effect and also when I apply white color charcoal on black pupils.. the white color doesn't shows up? What the heck??? I can't make white tiny curly hairs because white charcoal doesn't draws white color... and eraser doesn't creates white color either. So what do I need to do? I have all the tools I need.. paper seems to be the problem.

lol, and I live in the states and have to have my paper shipped from the UK, bcuz they don’t sell what I use here. It’s just Fabriano academia 200gsm drawing paper, but it’s my favorite for my charcoal work. I’ve tried other papers and nothing compares. We all have a style and a paper that best fits it, so it’s sad when we have to pay more to have it shipped than it actually costs. We should do a swap. I buy yours you buy mine and we ship. It’d probably be cheaper than the stores!

It comes from pastels, where rough paper allows you to get more layers of multiple colors

Hi, I just wanted to ask what did you spray on your joker picture? Was it just water? Or something else? Your drawing is phenomenal.
@Conda172 жыл бұрын
It was probably a fixative if he sprayed it on when he was finished, it acts like a seal to protect the drawing.

Luckily for me it was the only paper that was suitable for Charcoal for my needs, so I`ll give it a whirl and let you know how I fare with it . Thanks for your help Victor 👍🏻
