I looked at UNH between 350 and 400, wasn't aware how much of a drive their acquisitions are and have been, deemed it too expensive and expected it to be too mature and past it's best. Bit gutted now.

Sounds like my story with Costco. I did get in on Cigna as a recession hedge. For sure healthcare, defense, and energy are where I'm placing bets if darker times come around

Why did you think it was too mature? Historically and pretty much objectively it seems to be more likely that your average newcomer company will not achieve some peak of business prowess than an old behemoth would fall. So many companies out there that have weathered the fierces of storms before for more than a century. Many more companies that were promising and are totally forgotten by all except those who searched for them deliberately.

Cigna offers much better value, owns Express Scripts as their own PBM, growing Medicare business, 18% dividend and growing EPS ~10% a year.

It did go down back in 2008-2009...Not that it makes it a bad or not recession proof stock, pharma should do OK during periods of BUST, just don't expect it not to fall duting crashes, because it seems UNH and most others do. Maybe not as severely as tech, consumer discretionary, but it doesn't grow as good too.

it’s not always that they’re over valued, sometimes they are just fairly valued. so fairly valued you can’t make a good return because you can’t get a good deal. A scummy car salesman doesn’t try to get only 5% he aims for more, that’s what you should be doing as an investor. Why look for fair valued? That’s stupjd.
