I LOVE secret stories! I’m a first grade teacher in LA and I have never experienced such success in reading instruction. The kids are actually excited about reading tricky words. If you don’t call that a win then I don’t know what is. 😊

For "th" is it supposed to be "th" as in thick or "th" as in the? I was taught "th" made two sounds

Is it not messy to look at the wall? As in its not organized?I'm new to this , so I'm wondering if it takes a while to find the "sound" on the wall since its not in a certain order....

You don't! As long as they know one sound then the word becomes "figuroutable".

I don't like that it's called 'Secret". I don't think that is necessarily a good name for children's stories. I don't think I would use this based solely on that. We shouldn't be teaching children 'secrets' .

If you can’t get past the name, then you’re missing the point. My advice is that you call them what you want to call them, but if you implement, you will not be able to deny that IT WORKS! Parents tell me ALL THE TIME that their kids are always talking about secret stories at home. It works. I am a first grade teacher who implements secret stories and my kids have grown by leaps and bounds in their reading!

This program gets kids so excited. The students are telling the secrets--not keeping them! We are teaching them to share the secrets!

@@kathrynbeese5951 I did buy them. I have them on my wall. I wouldn't say I've had a quarter of the success some people say they have. However, I do utilize them and some of my students have learned sounds like 'er, ur,ir', and the sounds of 'ed'.
