Was just in Glenco, The Isle of Skye, Inverness, St. Andrews and Edinburgh two weeks ago. It was my first time, but it definitely wont't be my last. I want to spend more time in the Highlands. Great video!

I was up in Glenco for a week just 2 weeks prior to this trip and it snowed quite heavily. When I went back on this trip it was T-shirt weather. If you haven't been to the Highlands and get the chance to visit I would recommend it. Just watch out fo rthe midges if you visit in the summer months. They can drive you mad.

Truly wondrous locations, virtually all of which I never even knew existed! Makes me realize there's a trillion more all around the world, which in turn just makes me despair that I will never live long enough to visit and photograph all of them...Gorgeous photography as ever. Too many "favorites" to list, so just this one: @3.29 the monochrome. Bravo!

The world has become a small place but there are so many beautiful locations that it feels very large at the same time. I'm pleased you like the photos. I almost included the colour version of the one you mentioned because I thought a single black and white image wasn't in keeping with the others. I'm pleased I chose it now though.

Now Dave, I think we both know the luckiest person when it comes to photography is you. Steve and I don't usually stike it lucky. In fact, most of the time on this trip the best light was over within an hour of sunrise. Everywhere had a horrible blue haze and the sky was completely clear. It made it very hard to photograph most of the time.

some great photos robin i have just retired and really want to do this type of photography never touched a camera so what would you recommend to an absolute beginner that will be also of use when i am half as good as you camera and 2 lenses filters need help
@RobinWhalley Жыл бұрын
That's a really tough question to answer because it depends on so many factors like budget and how much weight you are able to carry. Essentially most cameras where you can control things like aperture and shutter speed will be great for landscape. Don't be seduced by the number of pixels as that will bring other problems. I used to shoot with big full frame cameras but now find them too heavy and bulky to carry around all day and my results would suffer because of this. I now shoot with the Fuji XT system as well as Micro Four Thirds cameras from Olympus and Panasonic. I find these much easier to carry and they can produce excellent results at a reasonable cost, although they do draw a lot of criticism from full frame users. I did a video about using micro four thirds for landscapes which you can find on KZbin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHvKmZKMfKmGlZo I've also published a lot of photography articles that you might find helpful. You can browse them with this page of my website lenscraft.co.uk/photo-editing/landscape-photography-tutorial/

There is nothing better than watching (your) beautiful images in a slide show with pretty music and your intro! I actually prefer this to the vlogs :-). It's just more quiet and I can focus on the compositions and feel as if I am there. Thanks for sharing. PS - agree with your location sharing concern and think you can actually share even less

Thank you. Hopefully the long drive and summer midge population will put a lot of people off .I do feel like a hypocrite saying these things but at the same time I’ve seen how a lot of people treat the countryside and I don’t like it.

What you didn't see on the video was the hour or so we usually spent walking around to check the angles and decide on the best compositions. We often spend a lot of time doing that before taking shots when we are shooting together. Often we agree on the best position and it must look odd. Two people in the middle of nowhere and we literally have our tripod legs interlocking to achieve the best angle and composition.

Absolutely beautiful video, you really did Scotland justice - wow. So many stunning photos from this trip. I love how you left the colour cast in your images as did Steve with his images. All you had to do was get the white balance pipette in LR - click on a mid colour and totally destroy the picture - so glad you didn't do that. 🏴👌
@RobinWhalley5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andy. We did rather well with this trip (which isn't always the case). I love the colours in the images and would never want to reset them. After all, you could actually see the shifts in colour with the naked eye. When we talk about the blue hour, you could really see it. The Highlands is a great location.

I really feel for you. I had a prolapsed disk at the top of my back and ended up suffering nerve damage (too much time sat down and carrying cameras round my neck). It was incredibly painful. I hope you get back to full fitness soon.

I have been visiting the area for over 40 years, photographing along the away ----- i can say without doubt the area has in many respects been trashed by the volume of tourist. The real nail in the coffin came when the concept of the 500 mile route was introduced, with so many just blindly going around the loop.
@RobinWhalley2 жыл бұрын
I don't think that I can comment given that I was also a visitor to the area. That said, I try to minimise my impact on the landscape where I can. Over the past few years, I've seen serious erosion in the area where I live and walk. What were once unused tracks have become regular walking paths for many new visitors and unfortunately for off roading. What becomes apparent is that people who know how to treat the landscape have little impact in comparison to those that don’t.

Hi;Iḿ an old fan of Steve ,and i thing that friend too. I hate you!,I'm with the Stendhal's Syndrome yet with your last trip ,that you are describing in this video.Why you show it in public?,after it would put empty of noisy and dust people !!!.The worst is that i cannot trip by there ,Iḿ a poor artist and photographer,better said it an artisan with empty bag.I have to settle for the wonderful views you show us .continue like this, thank you (that a contradiction )

I hope you understood the irony in my comment. There are scenarios that were only popular for photographers and devotees and in a short time they have begun to receive massive waves of visitors that are not respectful with the environment and have limited our freedom of updating by closing the way to bright frames, say for the safety of the tourist
