My mom was a science teacher. One of her students up-scaled this experiment to the max by putting all Na in school lab into the the well. Windows needed to be replaced.

Here - we always keep Na under petrol, kerosene or mineral oil - so it is still shiny. Explodes immediately unlike these.

Coca-cola plastic bottles have been shown to be a great for nitrogen or butane rockets due to the tapered neck of the bottle - most sizes work well but they have to be like the traditional tapered glass bottle but DON'T USE THE GLASS BOTTLES for the weight of them and the actual weight of the glass.

We used to make oxy/acetylene ballons off the cutting torch and put under a pail, it made a bigger explosion and sent the pail very far up. It was way simpler and safer than messing with this.
