I’m stuck on this song!!! It’s blowing my mind at this point in the career……to write a song like that it blows my mind!!!! Liked

That second “I’m trying,” sounded like Eddie was defeated and truly taken aback from the realization he was writing this song for his friend.

❤ Thank you for doing this!!! It's about Chris Cornell. Heartbreaking lyrics, and one of Eddie's most personal songs. 😔 Eddie was not at Chris' funeral and ruminated for quite a while before writing this song. The turning point in his relationship with Chris really came after Chris' rehab/once Chris met his second wife... Either the rehab program itself, or Chris' sponsor, had encouraged him to step away from his prior connections as much as possible upon completing the program. Chris met his second wife while separated from his wife Susan, then divorced and remarried quickly (most addiction recovery programs will strongly discourage getting into new relationships for at least a year)... And then he became more distant from those that he had always been so close with. Including Eddie... There is meaning in every single line, and the references are clear throughout, but especially: -would some love be best had it not appeared -she fell off the altar, a vision you caught her but then a woodcut in red...I wish it was not you that she had led...selfish navigation with no end -we could all use a savior from human behavior sometimes - the queen of collections took your time...sadness comes 'cause some of it was mine -the kids are alright (about Chris' kids) Obviously the love between these two friends remained strong, even though they weren't as actively in one another's lives 😔♥️

I did not know this. Thanks for sharing. I love both Chris and Eddie and their friendship. Each of them played a part in saving my life and making me a better man. The background you shared brought tears to my eyes.

Check out David Heretic technical breakdown of Eddie's vocal in this song, I'm amazed that this simple song has some special insinuating vocal technic. Rory's reaction on this compliment Mr Heretic reaction

Thank You Aaron and thank you Rory awesome reaction this is a song that Eddie wrote for his best friend Chris Cornell, a couple of verses about Chris 's wife Vicki Cornell she was not a nice lady. Thank You, 😊💓🤘✌️🔥 I Love Eddie Vedder!!

Great song from the most recent album. And it’s all Eddie Vedder. If I remember correctly Eddie performed this alone in the studio. The acoustic guitar is him. Eddie’s an amazing lyricist, and solo artist also. You may want to check out the soundtrack he did for the movie “Into The Wild”, including the songs “Society”, “Rise”, “Hard Sun”, and “Guaranteed”.

Thank You Maggie, I was going to mention "Into The Wild" Rory has not even touch the surface of Eddie Vedder and his solo career and his amazing guitar playing finger picking. Into The Wild is incredible movie and beautiful soundtrack!! 😊💓🤘✌️🔥

Dude: THIS. Just...this. These are the lyrics to PJ's "Wish List." Now imagine (or, hell, listen to it, lol) them being sung to a super chill vibe that is still startlingly beautiful. I like the bit about the Camaro and the moonlight especially. Vedder's so brilliant. I wish I was a neutron bomb, for once I could go off I wish I was a sacrifice, but somehow still lived on I wish I was a sentimental ornament you hung on The Christmas tree, I wish I was the star that went on top I wish I was the evidence, I wish I was the grounds For 50 million hands upraised and open toward the sky I wish I was a sailor with someone who waited for me I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me I wish I was a messenger and all the news was good I wish I was the full moon shining off your Camaro's hood I wish I was an alien at home behind the sun I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on I wish I was the pedal brake that you depended on I wish I was the verb 'to trust' and never let you down I wish I was a radio song, the one that you turned up I wish... I wish...

Ed Ved is an underrated lyricist. People just look at him as this old grunge cultural icon... typecast actor... can't get away from the legacy...
@joescott8877 Жыл бұрын
I guess he's underrated--I mean, i just don't know, but i've always thought his lyrics were Fire AF! "Wish List" lyrics are amazing!! To name just one. I love those of "Alive" as well.

👌🏼👌🏼 it’s pretty much known that this is about the death of Chris Cornell. Ed even speaks about Chris’s wife (that everyone hates) in the last verse. 🔥🔥

I've always thought it was reference to drug use and depression, along with maybe a little dig at his wife. Like "the queen of collections always gets it ... can't beat her in the end"

Everyone has already hit on the fact of this being about Chris Cornell but the other impressive thing is even though it's off the last pearl jam album, eddie is the one playing the guitar. He is the only member on this song and it is far and away the best song off gigaton. Unfortunately, due to covid postponing their tour till later this year i have yet to find a live version

They haven't played it in concert. I think he may not play it because it's so personal and for the obvious reference to Vicky Cornell.
