This is the tailgate sale at the MWTCA national meet in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 2022. On the Thursday of every national meet we hold a tailgate sale which is one of the best places to buy antique tools. Great deals and fantastic finds. On Friday and Saturday we go inside and have a whole other collection of tools in there to dig through. If you want to find out more about the MWTCA, you can go to mwtca.org

One little bit of interest -- those "surveyors chains" were called "rods" because they measured in rods not inches or feet.Back in the days of Washington,Lewis & Clark, Hamilton, and others they could make the "rods" without the need of specific feet, meters. yards, etc markings. The markings got messed up being drug through rough terrain. Remember they were doing the originals not tying into others' work. Readings were 16 and 1/2 feet to the rod. One square acre was 160 square rods.

When you were looking at that infill plane around 5:55, I was thinking that you've got carving skills, and you've made planes. You really need to make an infill with some beautifully carved white oak, finished with BLO. Unless you got you hands on some other exceptionally beautiful wood. I think we'd all forgive you if you found some walnut burl, or something like that. St. James Bay Tool Co. has some kits with all the precut metal you'll need. I'd love to see a video of somebody making one from their kits.

At 3:22 in the video you picked up a plane and said it was a side rabbit plane. That’s what you would think but that small little plane is actually a jointer plane! Trim jointer plane really. It creates a perfect 90 degree corner. Mainly for trim. Still a type of jointer though. Would make for a cool video I bet!!

The big Tripod at the back @7.40 is a surveyors tripod for a theodolite (looks like he has one in front), I have a very similar one I'm planning on making into a lamp. I know I picked mine up for AUD20 at a Garage Sale, would love to know what he was asking.

You're correct. I only know that because I used to watch a lot of The Plane Collector's videos. That's what he sharpened his irons with. He had a great channel. Sad that he passed away, but I'm happy that his family brought his channel back. I'd like to see James Wright sporting a wooden wig sometime.

@@BrianRust89 , yeah. Someone in one of the Facebook woodworking groups knew him and posted that he had passed away. Evidently he shut his channel down while he was ill, but didn't get the chance to start it back up himself. It's back up. It's just "Plane Collector", with no "the", like I incorrectly wrote above.

12.35 is known as a quirk router, the Preston version is common enough in England. The side of the cutter with the vee in it defines the edges of the quirk, the other side of the iron scoops it out.
