Best Powerbank for Meta Quest 3

I found the powerbank on Amazon in the states. I am not talking about the 18W. The 25 W is there but funny part. I cannot pull it up on my computer only the one in the UK and the 18 W in the states. However I can pull up the exact powerbank 25 W on this video on my Amazon app on my phone in the state. So looks for it in the app on your phone and you will find it :)

In Canada, in the title description, it shows as 18W, but in the specs it is 25W and the model number is the same as on the UK site.

@@WayneAnsteythat’s strange - the product details aren’t always correct or clear. Most important thing is the 25w - you could buy it and make sure that it says 25w on the actual box and that it’s usbc out.

I have the PrismXR Carina W1 belt powerbank and it is awesome! It is a bit on the more expensive side, but I've played for over six hours and never run out of power (though I think it was close at that point).

Aren't there any light, less heavy options? I'm looking for a power bank that's able to handle the Quest 3's demand that isn't so extreme. I don't want a heavy weight that adds 4-5 hours of battery. Something smaller that adds 2 hours would be more than enough. 4 hours of gaming before taking break is more than enough for me.

The regular battery is awful. You can get a good hour & a half on games that aren't really intensive. But once you start playing something like the new Asgard's Wrath, VR Chat, or a MR game, it drains quick. Especially if you're actively flipping between the game and passthrough mode. If you plan to use your Quest a lot, the powerbank is a MUST.

Great, I saw a 20.000 mAw Anker Powerbank in a department store in Malaysia and it cost around 200 Euro! Then when I came home (I live in Thailand), I found a similar 20.000 mAh powerbank that costs only around 15 Euro (!) and has enough juice to power my headset. Formfactor very similar to your Anker Powerbank. I used it for a while on my original headstrap like you did, with Velcro, but I my head got numb because I had to pull that headstrap tight on my head and that was not pleasant. Meanwhile I ordered online a headstrap (Vanpower) with built in battery, which has "only" 6000 mAh. It works great, gives me 2 hours extra and it cost only around 20 Euro! No buzzing, it even has a digital display in how much power it has left.

Don't think they explode, I think the worst that can happen is that these don't have so many cycles....

That is not true,meta actually recommends using a 45watt wall plug or powerbank to keep up with the quest 3’s power needs

The 45watts refers to the charging base unit which is to charge the headset and controllers using the mains plug. For a powerbank 25watts is sufficient as demonstrated in the video.

I'm sure it depends on the game/app you are using though. That may be a maximum draw scenario. Most power banks do not run at 45W output, and yet many can keep up with the Quest's needs. I use the PrismXR Carina W1 which has a 30W output. It keeps up with the headset usage through normal gaming, even running QGO and I have played for over six hours without either dying out completely.

​@TheOGReece its not misinformation i have around 6 power banks. My 28 watt power bank cant keep up. Must remember the headset is discharging watts aswell faster when using the headset your loosing around 10-12 watts making that 28 only about 16-18. Watts my other powerbank thats guaranteed fast charging it looses battery aswell when the usb a 25 watt slot is used even though its fast charging the type c to type c discharges less then the type c to type a i tried a 25 watt type c it dont loose power but it also dont gain dischanges 5 watts bringing it to 20 watts. The 45 watts my stuff charges when i use it. So the "limit" is incorrect they say on the quest 3 it supports 30 watts in real world from which you need a type c to type c to utilize it cause it discharges way less then the type c to type a. You can take my comment as a grain of salt or someone whois actually gone out of there way to test all of this stuff. If you dont have 45 watt charge or 45 type c powerbank you wont do well

Great tips all round. I watched your videos on the quest 2 and got a power bank for that but have upgraded to quest 3 and it won't charge it while playing. Also have a USB A to USBC cable for PCVR that you can connect the power to that meant I could play infinitely on quest 2 but for some reason it will not charge quest 3 while playing even when using the official quest 3 18W power adapter connected by official USB C cable to the PCVR cable. Pretty pissed off at the power with the quest 3, considering getting rid of it as I use it mostly for PCVR games using the aforementioned link cable which on the quest 2 I could play indefinitely on! Is there such a cable for quest 3 that meets the power requirements?

@@jook8330 Anker is always reliable. For myself I got a cheap “Charmcast” power bank and to been working really great for me. It’s 10,000 MAH and has 20w. It’s able to keep my Q3 at 100% the entire time during gameplay (Native and PCVR), It only cost about $15-$20. 10,000 mah I find it powers my Q3 about 2 to 2 1/2 hours depending on how demanding your game is. So with one power bank that’s 4 to 4 1/2 hours of total gameplay (Powerbank + Q3 internal battery).

I'm currently using a 10000 mah Battery and I find it only gives about 2 hours of extra battery. I'm mostly doing PCVR though so maybe I'm drawing more power to run higher resolutions. I seen there was a 20000 mah anker one @ 22.5W... Have you tried that one? (It's also on amazon UK) It should be enough power to maintain the charge and cost a few quid less than this one. Not that I plan on playing for like 10 hours or what ever but nice to have the extra power in case you forget to charge or want to use the power bank for other things other than just powering your VR.

I’ve been using powerbanks for years on my Q2 and now same with my Q3 and have had zero issues. Just get a reliable one. It shouldn’t be any different from plugging it into a wall outlet as you play. Only problems arise when you get either a very crappy wall plug or power bank. If you trust the power bank/ wall charger for your phone it’s probably reliable enough for your Q3. Just make sure the powerbank supples at least 20w of power. I would also recommend 10,000 mah.

You have to do it at your own risk and just do as much research as you can. I’ve never had an issue so far with the quest 2 and 3 but if you are unsure then it’s best not to use one. Even metas battery head strap is still a powerbank of sorts so there must be protection built in to the headset to safeguard the battery.

When playing in Steam VR they recommend to connect the goggles to your PC via USB-Cable for best performance, which means that it is also recharged via the PC-connection while playing. Guess there would be a warning if this would be a problem for the battery?

@@Kontra_Produktiv USB itself can not deliver enough juice, so the headset battery will still be draining while you play. I solved this issue the way that I bought a link cable that has got an additional charging socket, so I plug it in and my headset basically never drains, even after playing all day long.

I have a xiaomi powerbank, i use the original cable from the quest. (Both ends usb c) played around 2 hours. And i noticed that the headset is not being charged. I started with 93% and when i stopped playing it was still at 93%. Then when i turned it off then it started charging.

That means that it isn't 25W. Quest 3 takes 18W to charge on standby and 24W to charge whilst in use.

*Word of warning don't overuse the battery bank with the Quest 3. I messed up & used the battery bank CONSTANTLY now my Quest 3 won't power off, its still showing as charging despite my removing the cable, the screen is blank, won't shutdown its been this way for the last 12 hours & counting.*

Why add the powerbank so early? I mean would it be healthier for the headset battery to drain to at least 20% or even 15% before using the powerbank? Prob a silly question but I have little knowledge of battery. Thank you for sharing your tips and knowledge I am new and enjoying your channel

I think because the headset is being used and charging at the same time if the battery level is too low you run the risk of it not charging quick enough. Also it’s suggested not to ever let your headset get below 20% to prolong the health of the battery. You could probably let it get to 50% though. Thanks for the comment

Usbc, 25wh, and then depends how much extra time you want and how heavy you want it which will depend where you’re mounting it - just look for reviews and on Reddit for the one you choose. In theory any will work but they may not charge while you play. And remember it’s at your own risk.

Yes you can use the charging cable. In theory the headset should have safety cut outs anyway and won’t allow an over charge. But look into it as I don’t know for sure, maybe ask on Reddit where you’ll get more answers.

Just pick a 5V/3A - 9V/2A capable powerbank that can deliver at least 25W and at least 10 000 mAh and you are good to go. The more wattage the better, however more Watts mean bigger weight too.

20watt powerbank has worked perfectly fine for me. Played Asgards wrath 2, assassin's creed, contractors, virtual desktop, steam link and never does the battery drain. It doesn't increase as well. It just stays the same. Price wise a a 20watt powerbank is a lot cheaper. I got mine for $16 (10,000 mah)

DO NOT USE A 25W POWER BANK WITH YOUR QUEST 3!! Seen images of burnt out USB C ports on Quest 3? anything above 18W has a HIGH chance of causing this to happen. If you are fortunate enough to not burn out your USB C port you WILL shorten your Quests battery life expectancy dramatically. 15-18W power delivery is perfect for prolonging your battery's use time and overall battery life.

As long as the powerbank and usb charging cable are usb pd (power delivery)compliant you will be fine as this ensures the power is drawn and not pushed to the device. Meta themselves use a 45w PD compliant fast charger with their charging dock. I can only speculate on the burnt usb c ports but this could be caused by using non PD compliant power banks or charging cables also faulty wiring in the charging cable or loose connection could cause increased resistance and excesive heat at the connector
