Back in the day dude there was damn near no rules. I mean you could literally stomp a mf out back then and it was completely fine lol. These fights are the primary reason why my mom never wanted me to watch the ufc when I was a kid. I only was allowed to watch when I was with my uncle and he would show me these old pride fights and be like “be glad the rules have changed since then!”😂

You guys are actually talking about fighting rules here, not organizations. The rules only made Pride more entertaining than UFC. (beside the fights buildups and the general ambience) One fc is far more entertaining than UFC because of that. (I can't like your comment twice, sorry, @aaronjackson2720) In fact even rosters' average skill level has nothing to do with entertainment. 2 main game changers: kicking an opponent's head while he's on the ground. Elbows not allowed on the ground (making the guy on top in obligation to create space for activating ground and pound mode, so the guy on his back can use BJJ better. Overall, making the action higher pace on the ground than USA MMA rules.) USA MMA rules have, do and will always favor wrestlers. Boring.

@@mackenzieroberts1 I started watching MMA in 02/03, so pretty much when Pride FC was just about to hit its peak. It was a fun time with lots of crazy fights and some rally exceptional fighters at their best. But back then you had a big fight card with top talents across both Pride and the UFC once every one to two months. Nowadays we're truely spoiled by the amount of high level fights we get to see and also the overall talent pool is much deeper. I miss the stomps, soccer kicks and knees to the head on the ground though, just makes fights more dynamic and closer to what a real fight would be.

@@Ill.righteous31 oh for sure. That's the warrior mentality at the end of the day. I did kick boxing for ten years, four of them at (a very low) competition level. Training consisted of limited heavy sparring here and there and that was enough for me, didn't want to take the risk long term, especially going into a technical day job. No one is going to remember my name in the annals of combat sport, but many will remember Gary. So it is what it is. The guys I feel sorry for are some of the ones I trained with who never made it but heavy sparred for decades and probably will get CTE. Again, they had a great time doing it, so it is what it is.

Me and my best friend were in heaven, watching these fights! Old School Gary Goodridge was so ridiculously entertaining. Childsplay and Can I kick face? (from another fight, in which he asks the ref in the middle of the ongoing fight if he can headkick his downed opponent) are two of my all time great combat sport memories.

one of the saddest stories of mma. i've heard they mainly diagnose CTE during autopsies,so it must be a bad case of it if he's been diagnosed while alive. feel so bad for the guy

Some really brutal finishes, it was very entertaining, but not gonna lie some of these Japanese refs are re****ed, like the knock out at 9:20 was completely unnecessary I mean it was entertaining to watch but if I was at fighter I would be pissed at the ref, two completely unnecessary soccer kicks
