It’s pretty crazy that Tull isn’t considered Prog enough for album of the year at least once or even twice. Aqualung, Brick, Passion, Minstrel, Songs, Horses, Stormwatch, just to name a few. Great band with incredible musicianship. Nobody ever sounded like them.

@@audionmusic2787 Good point. However, I feel like Selling's mix better suited the album than if Alan Parsons worked on it. It sort of has an English countryside vibe that adds to its overall themes. Dark Side has an amazing mix, but it doesn't really convey that it's being told by an old man like it's supposed to because it sounds so fresh still. At least, that's how I think of it. Both are stellar albums start to finish, but Selling edges Dark Side out by a hair for me.

People have to remember, Floyd has definitely got some prog aspects to them, but not really a prog band in the sense of Crimson , Yes, Genesis, or ELP. I consider Floyd less prog and more difficult to put in a box. They seem to play a little bit of everything over the years. I’d call Rush more Heavy Prog if there’s such a thing, but I never really seen them as a prog band, although they have great chops but less musicality than Yes or ELP or Genesis. It would be pretty difficult for me to argue that Selling England is a better album than Dark Side, however, I think the case can be made that Selling England is certainly more Prog than Dark Side. 1967 was obvious We're Only in It for the Money and Shine On Brightly are strong contenders for 1968 1969 is obvious As good as Gentle Giant's first record was, I think 1970 goes to Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Trespass from Genesis is also great. Good choice for 1971 altho Fragile and Nursery Cryme could replace it imo. 1972 is incredibly hard to say but CTTE is a safe bet (that said, Thick as a Brick and Foxtrot) I know some people would day DSOTM for 1973, I mean it just has to be right? As far as impact and sound exploration goes, definitely. But Selling England's compositions are untouchable. 1974 is pretty obvious (The Lamb and Relayer are excellent though) 1975 is obvious 1976 is good but Moonmadness, A Trick of the Tail and 2113 are close 1977 goes to Animals 1978 is a rly good pick but it could be Hemispheres 1979 is The Wall, if you count it as prog (it does to me)

Alright. This is my first attempt on what could become my version of this list, as I'm not a full on fan of Progressive Rock, despite the fact I think its an incredible genre and would be in my top 5 favourite rock subgenres list. But here's my list below 1969 : In The Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson 1970 : Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd 1971 : Meddle by Pink Floyd 1972 : Close To The Edge by Yes 1973 : The Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd 1974 : Either Red by King Crimson or Rush by Rush (Apologies for two mentioned here because I only thought of this list today) 1975 : Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd 1976 : 2112 by Rush 1977 : Animals by Pink Floyd 1978 : Hemispheres by Rush 1979 : The Wall by Pink Floyd 1980 : Permanent Waves by Rush 1981 : Moving Pictures by Rush 1982 : Signals by Rush 1983 : Well I haven't listened to enough Progressive Rock besides Pink Floyd and Rush and a little bit of Yes, I'll skip that year 1984 : Grace Under Pressure by Rush Alright we'll skip all the way to 1994 : The Division Bell by Pink Floyd Alright I know it's likely not the best, but this video has inspired me to make on. I must listen to more Yes and Genesis and other Prog Bands

@@mjeh1 don’t get me wrong, like I said, it’s not bad, it’s just that the 1st side is obviously the selling point of that album. Rush is actually my favorite all-time band, depending on my musical mood of the day, seen them live like 15 times going back to the Grace under pressure tour. Seen them 3 times on the Hold your fire tour, I was blown away the 1st time I seen them play the entire first side of 2112. I believe it was on the Power windows tour

1970 - I love GG, it is one of my favorite prog band, but "Third" by Soft Machine, "Lizard" by King Crimson or "H to He Who Am the Only One" by VDGG are better. 1971 - Great choice, but this time I personally prefer "Aquiring the Taste" by GG, Mahavishnu Orchestra "Inner Mounting Flame" or Weathers Report self titled. 1972 - Great choice! Less obvious but not worse are GG "Octopus", Frank Zappa and Mothers "The Grand Wazoo". 1973 - I love that Genesis album, but it is not the best. Better are Pink Floyd's "DSoTM", Magma "MDK", Gong's "Flying Teapot" and "Angel's Egg" or GG's "In a Glass House". 1974 - Gong "You". 1975 - Henry Cow "In praise of Learning" 1976 - VDGG "Still Life" 1977 - Jethro Tull "Songs from a Wood" 1978 - Kate Bush "The Kick Inside" 1979 - Tangerine Dream "Force Majeure" ...
