not great job at all. He talks about DLP projector and not telling anything about their brightness in collor accurate modes. We need at least 1000 lumen in color accurate mode to watch movies in a completely dark room, i doubt that DLP projector with 2000-3000 lumens of white can provide enough brightness in color accurate mode.

Single handedly the best channel for HT for the average person to understand on KZbin. I'm In the very early stages of building my HT (a dream for as long as I can remember) and just stumbled on you channel doing research on the benq 2050a and....wow, binge watching everything.

Hey guys! A few people have asked about the Benq 4k projectors (TK800 & HT2550). These are great 4k projectors but the Optoma UHD50/UHD51A projectors are noticeably sharper and slightly more color accurate. The "Under $1500 Runner Up" could have been a tie between the Viewsonic PX727-4K and the Benq HT2550 but the Viewsonic is a little sharper and it's priced less than the Benq. As far as Epson projectors, unfortunately they don't have any affordable projectors that are comparable to the other projectors that are priced under $2000. If the Epson 5040ub was priced at $1999 it would have certainly made the list considering its great black levels and color accuracy. Epson makes some amazing projectors with some great optics and if this video had a "Under $3000" category Epson would certainly dominate it.

I'm not familiar with the uhd300x as it's a UK model. It looks very similar to the uhd50 but with 200 less lumens.

Majestechs hi i noticed you put the view sonic p4747-4K along with the 1080 version of benQ ht2050A, which makes me wonder, is the 4k version really 4k or is it scaled 4k? :/ also i have been noticing the color problems you were talking about, I can't tell the difference between red and orange on this projector and the black levels are so bad, I cannot see anything in them at all, for example I play destiny and when my character goes into a shadow, in the game, I can't see him because it looks like he has gone invisible :/

Bud, I just bought a optoma gt1080E for £450 brand new. Do you think I made a good choice? I will mainly use it for Netflix on a grey wall and other walls + ceiling will be a darker grey tone. Room will always be dark too. I will play some casual games on it too but nothing competitive.

To fill the gap between $5000 and $2000 I've added a new category. "Best Projector under $2500" Epson 5040ub Runner Up: Optoma UHD65 As I mentioned in the video, the Epson is a great 1080p 3LCD projector with great black levels and color accuracy. It also does a fantastic job with 3D content. If you prefer better color and black levels over 4k clarity then this is the projector you're looking for. The Optoma UHD65 is the Runner Up and is very similar to the UHZ65 and UHD60 and is a certified 4k projector. It's not as bright as either of them but it has great color accuracy and contrast. It also has PureMotion (frame interpolation) which the UHD60 does not have.

Excellent video. Great breakdown. Most informative I've ever seen. I have a question about screens. I use a Silver Ticket (white material), I also made a 2.40 screen with elite CineWhite material. Both look really good. I was wondering if you had any preferences on screens. And what do you use. I'm thinking of moving up from a Benq HT3050 projector. Might get the UHZ65. Ok being a novice to audio and video I was wondering a couple of things. 1. All of the projectors you reviewed are they all ceiling mountable? 2.How do you hook a gaming system up to the projector when it is mounted in the ceiling, without having alot of wires hanging down. I might sound silly but im just trying to figure out how i would setup a sensor bar/gaming camera that has to be attached to the system via cable. 1. Most projectors have screw holes on the bottom for you to use them with a ceiling mount. 2. You would usually run a long hdmi cable all the way to wherever your system usually is. 3. My favorite gaming projectors are the BenQ HT2150ST, Optoma GT1080darbee, and Benq th671st

I have a Benq HT2050 and i'm interested if the UHD50 would have comparable black levels and contrast. I use all the projectors in the low lamp mode. Also, has the UHD50 got noticable raibow effect? The HT2050 has almost no noticable rainbow.

TRUE 4K 3D UNDER £700 - £800 IS WHAT I AM WAITING FOR. 3D 120 Hz VIEWING IS A MUST. Hope by year 2020 this would be the norm. My 720p projector (80 inch screen) and 55 inch TV will have to fill the time until then - no upgrades.

I like this reviewer! He actually knows a little something about projectors! FYI, that Sony VPL-VW285 has been replaced by the Sony VPL-VW295 (which offers marginally better HDR performance)! Also, let me add to this list: The best sub $5,000 projector is the JVC DLA- X790R! That puppy beats out the Sony, and Optoma for picture quality! I have done side-by-side in-person comparisons and the differences in picture quality are not subtle! That JVC was $6k a few months ago but JVC has reduced the price to $4k! It excels in ALL the important metrics by offering expanded color gamut, insane black levels, great contrast ratio, great HDR performance, and a glass-smooth image processing algorithm! In fact, during a recent client demonstration, during a dark scene, the room became so dark you could not see your hand in front of your face! As an owner of a custom home theater installation company, me and my techs have recommended, installed and calibrated (ISF certified) several of the projectors mentioned in this video (Optoma and Sony)! I rank JVC #1, Sony a close 2nd, Optoma distant 3rd! Just my 2 cents!

How does gt1080darbee compare too the benq th671st? They both have 16ms latency. But little different throw. At 7' darbee gives 200" Screen. The benq is 11' for same. Which would put it right behind my couch. If you had to choose between these which would you go for? Used for gaming and movies in dark room.. They both same price. But little difference specs. Hey Majestechs, What would be the best screen to use with an Optoma UHD50? Silver, White, Etc... This is my first projector setup so im clueless. Also, I bought a raised ranch house and it has a 9 inch lip on the wall in the basement so a wall mounted 120 inch is a no go. I think the biggest I can get would be a 92 inch wall mount or a ceiling mounted retracting screen which one would be the best one to get that is affordable?

I will post a video once I can figure out how to conceal the power cord. I would like to do it behind the wall, but I don't think it will meet the building code.

Chris love your videos and the time and effort you put into them. Couple things, one is that for those of us with scope screens none of the projectors you crowned in any of the price categories will work due to lack of lens memory. It's a huge shortcoming on the DLP projectors. Second is have you seen the JVC e-shift projectors? I picked up a UHZ65 and JVC X770 and the JVC, by far, had the best picture thanks to its much better native contrast and color accuracy. In terms of pricing if you watch for deals there are several authorized vendors who sell JVC projectors for up to 50% off MSRP. Example I paid $3500 for an x770r but the next model down from JVC was well under $3000. Keep it up!

Chris, you didn't mention about the different lights. Now they are using DLP... I used to have LED (until we got hit by lighting). The Casio LED was working great up till then. I noticed LED says 20,000hrs, whereas these DLP's have moving parts and note 4500hrs. Hence, I was looking for another LED machine but I don't know which one is best.

Hey Chris, love the videos. I'm looking to buy my first projector for my birthday and was looking for some advice. I'll be putting the projector in my basement so there will be no ambient light. It's also a small area so I need a semi short throw to short throw projector. I'm really tempted by the Optoma UHD51a because of the 4K. I'm just having a hard time justifying spending that much money. If I don't get that I'm torn between the BenQ 2050a and the BenQ ht2150st. So,I gotta ask cause I am lost. I want to upgrade from my acer 133x to either epson 5650 or 727 from viewsonic and I don't know atm. If I stay at 1080p with the 5650 will I get better contrast or the hdr on the 727 from viewsonic will be more accurate in colors than the 3lcd sdr?

Really like your channel, I have a question. I have viewsonic px725hd and about to order px727-4k the contrast on the 4k stated as only 12,000:1 contrast vs 22,000:1.I am very worried that I am getting worse projector. Is the contrast that bad?

I have a ht1085st mounted on my ceiling. I want to upgrade but short throw is a must in my application. Which projector has short throw, no light border or leakage, high color accuracy and brightness (in the living room) and 3d? Of course I'd love laser so I'm not stuck searching for "real" OEM bulbs that don't cost an arm and a leg. Also lens shift and remote focus would be awesome. Some of the higher end options can be sacrificed if they are cost prohibitive. PS I love your review style. Keep up the good work!

What is the rainbow effect? I think I'm switching to a projection t.v. because the normal flat t.v. send shooting pain into my eyes. I saw an Epson in a shop projecting in a brightly lit room and my eye's felt great! The pain was gone.

Hello, I have decided to buy a projector for my room. The projector will need to be at least 1080p and will be used for movies. It will be placed about 13 feet away from the screen. The screen will be about 90-95 inches. I bought an Epson HC 3100 to test whether the room lighting is good for a projector. However that particular projector is too pricey for me. The quality was great though. Will downgrading from this projector of 50000 contrast to something like 15000 or 22000 be a very noticeable and negative change? My main candidates are BenQ 2050A, PX147 and HD24HDR, all of which have less contrast than the Epson. The BenQ has higher color ansi lumens whereas the other two have better contrasts (about 7000 higher). Is a ~700 brightness better for the overall movie watching experience or a 7000 contrast? Thank you for your feedback. I am open to other projector suggestions.

Hello Chris, thank you for all the work you did here, it helped me a lot to understand what I want and what I need to look for, but I have a question. Can I find a decent 1080p projector for a 100 or 200 bucks? :) I mean a good quality picture with enough britness in a full dark environment. I watched a lot of your videos and what you recomment is a projectors 500 and up, but is there a decent projector under 3-2 hundreds that will satisfy a film connoisseur?

Hey Chris, for the " Under $1000" category I can understand the ViewSonic being 4K but why would I buy BenQ HT2050A over an Epson HC1060? As 3D is the only area where BenQ has an edge or you are bias against 3LCD tech?
