Pretty much all people that knew him in person off stage, including fellow WWF wrestlers, said he was a completely different man off camera than he was on camera, still a tad bit excentric, loved partying, dr*gs and booze, but very different from his Iron Sheik in-ring character. He was by all accounts a very nice and humble man, and a true family man with strong moral values, and despite what his in-ring character would have you think, he really loved America, just as much as his home Iran. He also had a lot of Jewish and gay friends and even relatives. He was just a really good actor and really dedicated to kayfabe, as most of those old school wrestlers of his generation generally were. That you got to think that this was his real personality is only another testament to how good he was at what he was doing. Also, you do realize this guy had lived in America for more than 50 years by the time of his death, and was an american citizen too. You really think someone who's lived in America for over 50 years, (and NEVER returned to his home country again), still speaks such broken english and with such a strong accent? He was definitely just faking it for the cameras as part of his character. He literally lived in America for longer than he was in Iran.
