Hi, thanks for this video. Would you also recommend mastering directly in your project file? I think that mastering in the project file can be beneficial to make fixes to mix in the same file.
@StockMusicMusician4 жыл бұрын
I think the best way to get better is by exporting project file stems. Then mixing them. If it sucks, then you know you need to work harder on sound design & arrangement. Same goes for mastering. Over time you'll get better at mixing if you're locked in.

Thanks!! Just downloaded the template and am curious about the results, first watching the video ;) I am a composer and love to edit but always paid a professional mastering engineer, now I am competing in a remix contest and my engr. is in the jury lol so i was stuck so really hope this video will help me to achieve a proper master.

Great video, big thanx. I have a question regarding this template (very cool to be using stuff only included in Reason). If I buy Ozone Elements 10, what does it include and what could/should (that you recommend) it replace, say, in your template? Everything, or just the Maximiser? What I mean is, if I remember well, you said it's better than MClass, but would the rest of stuff in Elements be also better than the rest of your template? (I'm in Reason 12, I think Ozone 10 Standard would not work in Reason, right? VST3 I believe?)
@StockMusicMusician Жыл бұрын
Reason 12 now supports VST3 so Ozone Standard works great. I would replace everything with Ozone. I honestly do not at all recommend mastering in Reason with stock plugins, if you can afford not too, and since you're going to master EVERY song you make, I feel like Ozone is about the best investment you can make in plugins. I'd also recommend grabbing Ozone Standard over Elements, as it just includes so much more. It looks like it's actually on sale for 50% off right now bit.ly/GrabOzone (affiliate link).

Is this song that you’re mastering sent through the mastering device with it bypassed before you import it
@StockMusicMusician4 жыл бұрын
Yes! The only processing I have on it is the mixer's buss compressor (and it's fully mixed). Then export the raw audio file and do all the "master section" stuff in the template.

Would you say that mastering for vinyl an option in Reason?
@StockMusicMusician3 жыл бұрын
Frankly, I don't know anything about mastering for vinyl, as it's a totally different beast with very real physical limitations. I would feel comfortable saying that it is impossible to get a good vinyl master in Reason with the stock plugins, though. If I wanted to release something on vinyl, I would actually hire a mastering engineer to do it, because if you mess it up, all of the vinyl copies you had purchase will be busted, and you'll be out a lot of money.

thanks for this video! So, at the moment i know nothing about mastering,,so the first step to Master is to Bounce or export the song(after the mix) and bring it back into Reason as one audio track? and you are ready to master from that point? How does the Bounced Audio track(the song) enter the Master section? Thank you!
@StockMusicMusician3 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt! Everything in Reason goes through the master section, so you’re the point of bouncing is to commit to the sound and free up CPU resources. If you want to learn more about mastering, I’m actually doing a free live mastering workshop next week. You can find out more at stockmusicmusician.com

BEST WAY TO MASTER A FULL ALBUM IN REASON?
@StockMusicMusician3 жыл бұрын
There's not a great way to do this. I'd semi-master each track using the mastering template, with the aim of them all sound good individually and really focusing on having them be the same volume. Then I'd bounce those semi-masters out and upload all of them into a new version of the mastering template. Then lay final bounces of all the songs the songs on their own channel, end to end. Then route each of them through the mastering template and try to make them all sound good together.
