Congrats, your efforts are brilliant. I read Bernard Smith's The 40 Knot Sailboat about 1971 and made a foiling 3-point trimaran model with leuward foil surface perpendicular & coaxial with the tilted wingsail, but no RC but it went fast then cartwheeled when it hit the lake shore in Portarlington, Victoria. Sadly no photos or videos. A keen memory was the unique ZZZZ noise as it screamed through the wind ripples on the lake. It went about 3X wind speed and changed direction with the increasing apparent wind. Fun! I'd love to make one like yours with modern radio.

3 times the wind speed is very impressive. Do not think I have achieved that. How long was the model - pity you don't have any photos! I have tried with a tilted sail as well but not successful

Amazing. Would you make a video about the boat’s systems? Rigging and electronics?
@PerthMini40man3 ай бұрын
It's all pretty standard stuff except for the adjustment of the foils. I'll video that next time

All that speed with only mother nature providing the power. Brilliant.

That is seriously brilliant! I am based in Perth and very interested in this. I would love to get in contact. Regards, Andrew Wilson

Hi Andrew. We live in Darlington, but I sail the boat at Austin Lakes in Mandurah, as it is the best piece of water that I can find for these boats . I'll be sailing it again this coming Saturday afternoon if you are free to come and watch/have a go. I then take it to New Zealand on 12 November for 5 days of racing at Pegasus

Very cool. It almost looks like these model foilers could benefit from ballast. A little more inertia for tacks and through lulls. Have you tried this?
@PerthMini40man3 ай бұрын
yes I have two packs of 250gms, one for each float, but these were for an older boat and for this boat I am trying to get the foils to keep it flat

@PerthMini40man good to know you are thinking about this. I think there is merit in the inertia. In many sports out of always assumed that lighter is better this is not always true... keep up the good work!

This is AMAZING, but we want the onboard audio! 😁

will put a camera on board next time. There is some onboard video in this one - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4eQeYGDZ8RqaZY

how are you making the L-shape foils? are there any tutorials you can recommend?
@PerthMini40man3 ай бұрын
the foils are not L shaped, they are at 45 degrees. Some people make moulds for them but build them up by first making an internal plug out of marine ply or foam and then lay up at least two layers of 200gsm carbon twill on both sides
