how are you making the L-shape foils? are there any tutorials you can recommend?
@robmetz186717 сағат бұрын
Very cool. It almost looks like these model foilers could benefit from ballast. A little more inertia for tacks and through lulls. Have you tried this?

how fast is it?

unfortunately I did not have my GPS tracker with me. The fastest we have ever recorded is 34kph (18.4knots)

That thing goes like crazy 😮 I wouldn't wonder if it's faster than the real ones, wenn you upscale the speed...much respect for building this work of art 👍👍👍

Very nice. I've been looking at the Dragon 95 Foiler, or possibly even modifying a Dragon 65 to foil in a similar manor (tri-hull). Do you think there is a limit in the minimum hull size (length) that one could get a tri-hull to foil? is 65cm too small?
@Lozzie747 күн бұрын
So fast! Us ALRS sailors were impressed watching you at the lake today. You should come and race us sometime. You’ve got the speed but we’ve got the ability to point higher and run deeper. It would be an interesting contest!
@PerthMini40man7 күн бұрын
That's a great idea! Would be good to do this before I take the boat to New Zealand for 5 days of racing on 12 November. But please can we have a big course, using some of the permanent buoys, and not tucked up under the trees! The boat needs to stretch its legs.

I'm so excited that you're still posting - I just found your stuff by searching for "RC foiling sailboat" and I'm really impressed!

That’s great. Would love to see a model AC 75.
@PerthMini40man8 күн бұрын
An RC AC75 is impossible. The have T foils that are constantly being adjusted by battery power and computer. The configuration would capsize at slow speeds at our size without a central keel

Hi, I have been following your channel for a long time. We had a similar size development multihull class in Finland even with some foil experiments 30 years back. As you have done such extensive iterations, develeopments with fantastic performance now I would like to ask is there any more information available about the current builds ( foils, hulls, controls and rigs). I would like start with the RC multihulls again (have had monohulls like DF65 etc.) but using the current best practise available. Are the hulls composite build or foam? Any website? Wpuld be great if you would make one review video going through the boat in great detail with all the lessons learnt.

Hi sorry I no longer have this boat. I remember that I increased the beam of the boat by lengthening the cross beams with carbon tube inserts as the boat is far too narrow as supplied. I also added a deeper rudder with a T foil on the bottom to stop the boat pitch-poling. The mast is unstayed and slid into a carbon tube that I inserted further forward in the main hull. But overall I was extremely disappointed in the boat
@andrewbermel1099Ай бұрын
I would be interested to see a timelapse of how you build these great things!
@PerthMini40manАй бұрын
I would be interested too..... however the hulls, rudder and foils are built in the UK (the hulls are my design) and then shipped to me in Australia for fitting out and adding the rigs, so am afraid the logistics of such a challenge would beat us here.
@CarkeekWАй бұрын
A lot of good things working in combination there, i like the look of the orange/black/white foils , i assume the white is meant to be in the water when at speed and seems to be sitting really nicely. It seems to ride slightly bow high and use the tapering foil area to regulate the ride height, but it's dead smooth. Possibly the best yet would you say Ian , a rig size down twin skin might well bust the speed record, 34kmph ??
@PerthMini40manАй бұрын
hello again, yes I agree, might work better at a smaller size for stronger winds. The orange/white/black foils are for stronger winds, the bigger foils at the very beginning of the video are intended for marginal foiling conditions. That was their first outing/

Nice! That boat looks like a speed demon when all the forces line up correctly!
@ruftimeАй бұрын
So cool! So like a very thin depron foam core airplane wing?!
@PerthMini40manАй бұрын
Yes something like that but the foam is in 6 sections. 3 section down the back of the mast, and each one of these has a hinged section of foam on the trailing edged. Nothing too fancy
@chadrew6Ай бұрын
There is a speed at which a foil will no longer produce lift, and I think that your foil may have reached that speed. Cavitation is the cause and gradually increases with velocity to a point where super cavitation eliminates all the lift

What are the dimensions of the boxed foiling kit for the df95 please as I’m on the gold coast and thinking of purchasing a kit to return to the Uk with ?
@PerthMini40manАй бұрын
Well the hull is 95cm since it is a DF95. The current floats I believe are also 95cm long but you need to check, as I have an early version with shorter floats. I have taken my Mini40 (122cm long) on a number of flights with me to New Zealand and Europe, just as extra baggage. The kit is supplied by dragonfoilers in New Zealand: rcfoilsailing.com/collections/dragon-foiler?srsltid=AfmBOorGvCNrwyOIwCzyp9lENvqpHCM8s8WlftZoiAUWuCX1P1qHkYwU

@PerthMini40man2 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for your comments. No not using a gyro. Just manually adjusting the angle of attack for the foils for each tack. I like to minimise the amount of electronics on board where possible

have you throught about using a flight controller to control the rake of the 2 boards? this would help to keep things level.

@PerthMini40man4 ай бұрын
I don't know the actual strength of wind that makes the smaller rigs necessary. Yes most people have 3, 4 or 5 rigs for their boats. This video is 12 years old, I don't have the boat anymore
