I’ve used GP5000 clinchers and GP5000 STR tubeless on my 3 bikes. I have had 2 punctures in 4 years and 20,000km of riding. It’s safe to say I won’t be moving away from GPs they are brilliant tyres and well worth the money. Fast, grippy, robust and bulletproof. What’s not to like.

FIRST DAY riding my new canyon aeroad in switzerland and i flatted on the 5000S tr conti (28mm backwheel), extremely small piece of glass minuscule hole but that was that. being them being brand new i was really taken aback on HOW HARD it is to take them off and on again compared to the normal 5000's. If you dont want to go tubeless buy the normal 5000

@ I recently fitted a new set of GP5000 clinchers with latex tubes in 700c x 30. This was my first time using 30mm tires on any of my bikes. It was really hard to fit them onto the rims, in desperation I had to use dilute soap solution to get them on. In my experience the S TR are easier to fit. Sorry to hear you got a puncture but sometimes it’s just bad lack. As I said above I am sticking with Continental because I they are the best road bike tires overall.

Conti 5000 TT TR for races, Conti Ultra Sport III for everyday training. Lots of grip, really low Crr and an increible price. I use them for a full road season (about 8K Km). For about €30 a pair, you can’t get any better.

Vittoria Rubino for me, and when they wear out, I will get more. Great for everyday performance riding, but probably not a race tire. Nice ride quality, light, acceleration feels great, and near zero flats.

Vittoria Corsa N.EXT TLR 32mm wide. Comfortable and fast enough for me. Had one puncture that I noticed so far and the sealant took care of that real quick. Just rode 300km gravel on them last week because the shifter on my gravel bike broke the day before the trip and I had to take the road bike instead. Not one problem aside from the sketchy traction 😂

I switched from Gatorskins to the Hutchinson challengers about a year and a half ago. So much nicer to ride on (much grippier and feel faster). They really are not wearing down quickly either. Such good value.

I ride Conti 5000s for the summer, then Hutchinson Challengers in the winter. The Conti's are very fast and grippy enough to not worry about it in summer temps. Had a few punctures in the past, but they're fairly rare. The Challengers I find sometimes quite slow, unless (strangely) its raining when they can be seriously rapid. They feel absolutely bombproof, ridiculously grippy, give you so much confidence on a winter ride, zero punctures (yet) and allow you to really appreciate the return of your speed when putting the Conti's back on mid-spring. In summary, the Conti's do everything you need for summer without thinking about the tyres at all; the Challengers just feel noticeably great and confident to the extent that you end up marvelling how good they feel on every winter ride.

I came from the Conti 5000s too in 32mm on my gravelbike and tried the Hutchinson Challengers today for the first time. It was raining the last days, but not today and the roads were not really dry. With 1 and 3 degrees outside and some headwind I have to say, the Challengers are needing much more power to get on your pace. But when you are reaching your regular pace, then the Challengers are rolling very nice. The have much more material on the rolling surface of the tyre. So you will need more power to move them forward. The Conti 5000 are much more agile than the Challengers but they are catching everything from the ground and becoming damaged very fast in comparsion with the Challengers. I will ty the Hutchinson Challengers a bit more but I guess, Iwill end on some other 4-seasons tyres, which are less heavy than the Challengers.

I run schwalbe pro one tle on my road bike. Last about 2-3k miles and are pretty fast and seem to cope with the crappy roads round our way. I also run Vittoria n.ext tlr's on my winter bike and find them to roll nearly as fast as the Pro One's. So far I'm happy with my choices.

I switched to Pro One (30mm) 2 years ago, on my forth set now - and I haven't had a single puncture. As for longevity - it's similar for me, they last for around 5k km, although I ride front one for a bit longer. And the best thing that they're not crazy expensive - you can get 'em for around 45 eur (in 30mm variant).

I have had the same experience. I run mine (30mm) with standard tubes. I get about 5,000 km from the Schwalbe Pro One, and haven't had a puncture despite running on a lot of chip seal and generally poor rural asphalt. Speed wise they feel just as fast as the more race specific tires I tried.

The Michelin Power Cup Competition both clincher and TLR are a bit faster than the GP5000s at a fraction of the price. I've been riding them on the classic wall look (cream wall on the Contis) and they look amazing and have given me the same and better performance as the Contis. Pirellis have been improving but they're charging too much for just the brand.

Michelin Power Cup are a tiny bit cheaper than the GP5000 and a tiny bit lighter. Wet grip isn’t good tho. Apart from that they are equivalent to GP5000. Same performances really.

I've ridden Conti GPs for years and been pretty happy with them. When I got my new bike, the GPs were unobtainable, so I got a pair of Pirelli P-zeros and I absolutely love them! Fortunately, I don't have to deal with thorns or really bad roads where I live, so I don't usually have issues with punctures.

Conti are the best tyres. Worth spending the extra. Mine are on their second season coming up 10k miles and still loads of life. Maybe because I’m lighter rider 63kg but unbelievable performance and still as grippy as day 1.

I've been using the 32mm Gravel King tires on my all-road bike. I initially bought them because they were affordable and came in cool seasonal colors, but they've turned out to be amazing all-road tires. They hug paved corners well and provide just enough grip on gravel. They're crazy fast on gravel too. I think a pure road race tire might roll even faster on gravel, but the Gravel Kings wore out before they got cut. I've only had small punctures which the sealant fixed, and I've never had to dismount them for tube replacement or use plugs for a big hole fix. For those who ride in wet conditions on roads, the Continental 4 Season tires offer amazing wet grip and a long lifespan, but they are quite expensive.

The slick gravel kings are a great all round tire for the road despite its name. They ride nice on light gravel or cinder path trails as well. Remind me of the old Vittoria green pave tires.

Currently using them, get puncture at least twice a month, they’re terrible in my opinion. I run them tubed though, and use the bike on my daily commute (30+30km). You’re right, fast, comfortable, grippy but can’t stand the constant fear of punctures…

@@diedrino Yeah tires are very personal. I know a lot people swear by Conti's, whether it be GP 5000 or gatorskins. I tried the old 4000s once and just didn't do it for me. Not to mention the reputation those had for random sidewalls blowouts. I've used the gravel kings from 26mm to having current set of 38mm on my gravel bike and haven't had any puncture problems with them. Only when they near the end of use have I gotten only a couple of flats. ymmv

I ride road bikes for 35 years now. And from Ultra Sport 19 mm over Continental Sprinter to 28 mm GP 5000 Continental was any time the best choice. Any other choice did not stand the Competition. And I tried a lot. With Continental you can't go wrong. Money always spent well.

If one make a trade-off between rolling resistance and puncture protection the Pirelli Cinturato Velo comes out as the best tire. I have been on it for 3 years and 3 bikes and have yet to puncture.

I had the Schwalbe Pro (25) set up tubeless and recently changed to GP5000 (28) with TPU tubes. What a difference. Its like the brakes are not draggy anymore. Much better grip as well, and importantly, much easier to mount and dismount. Why on earth did I ever stick with the Schwables?

I also rode with Conti GPs for several years, including the 5000 STR. I found the 5000s to be super fast, and very responsive... though the moment the tarmac is a bit wet, they arent the best... also, they are much worse than the previous versions in regards to puncture resistance (speed comes at a price); the moment temperature goes under 12-10 c, they became rock hard and anything could go right through them. So, to compromise between speed and durability, I switched to the PZERO Race TLR 4S (4S = 4 seasons). Wow, that is the golden ticket for where I live in regards to grip (in heavy rain, they just seem to beg to go faster), durability (no punctures so far, even under 10 c temps), and speed... though I will say speed is less than the contis (not by much, but I did notice) due to the rolling resistance being much higher (hence the super high grippyness).

Pirelli P Zero Race 4S are the best allround tire for me. Fantastic grip in all conditions, comfortable and supple, solid puncture protection, and all at the expense of about 1 watt per tire compared to GP5000S.

Continental GP5000 clincher with TPU tubes in 32mm mounted to a Roval Terra CL wheel. With the 25mm internal rim width, they measure out to 33mm. They’re light, fast, and comfortable with a lot of grip! Incidentally, some Specialized sponsored riders used this wheel and tire size combo for Paris-Roubaix. Wider is faster!

I just switched to 35mm GP 5000 AS from 40mm Schwalbe G-ONE RS as I do mainly road cycling so there was no point to stick to gravel tyres. Schwalbe lasted around 3500 km on tarmac with almost no gravel ride and no puncture (that I noticed, perhaps sealed?). By the end of the 3500 km the back tyre got bald and I was itching to try some road tyres to see if I can get faster. I only did 100 km with the new 35mm conties and it seems like despite of being narrower they have a better tarmac grip than G ONE RS and my speed might increased a little bit. More time is needed to be sure about the speed aspect. I really hope to not to get punctures on these tyres as well and hopefully they would last longer than 3500 km. I see lots of people getting double of this number even for more race oriented tyres. According to the reading I did on internet, by making a little compromise on grip and puncture resistance I could get Pirelli Race TLR Speed Core version to gain some more speed which according to the bicycle rolling resistance makes other all season tyres "pointless". However they do not come with 35mm width and they are difficult and expensive to get. According to the same information source, a step up from Pirelli RACE TLR Speed Core in terms of speed would be the new Pirelli RACE TLR RS but they are not only too expensive, also I am not entirely sure if they are suited to the UK winter riding for daily commutes. Probably they would not last as long as other two candidates. When I wore out the GP 5000 AS, I might give RACE TLR Speed Core a try. Especially if they come up with 35mm version.

I've had good experiences with the Continental GP 4 Season tires. They are considerably more robust and puncture resistant than their GP 5000 siblings, but seem to have reasonably low rolling resistance. Granted, I'm not racing, and they probably don't offer the optimal speed for racing. Currently, I'm running a GP 5000 in the front and GP 4 Season in the back. I bought the latter when a GP 5000 punctured with its flimsy sidewall ripped open only days after I put it on new.

I'm really happy with my combo of Pirelli P0 Race 4S (non TLR) and Ridenow TPU tubes. Lighter and faster than my previous stock tubeless setup at basically the same pressure (which is even upheld for longer). And no punctures yet.

Always, always always ran GP5000s (and GP4000/GP4000Sii before that), but having an S-Works bike, and being unable to source GP5000s at a good price recently, I've decided to give the Turbo Cottons a go. Have no doubt they won't offer the same puncture protection, but still looking forward to seeing what they're like.

I've made the same change for similar availability reasons and so far they are OK. Feel a bit harder but this is mitigated by lower prrssure. Slightly more grip on loose surfaces, but slightly less on smooth or wet roads. So, overall acceptable, but unless they last 5000km, I'll probably go back to GP500's.

I agree with a lot of the advice here (love the P-Zero myself), but Gatorskins just plain suck. High rolling resistance and horrible wet grip. The only thing going for them is puncture resistance. However , even there, recent Pirelli 4S and Cinturato tires get very close and slaughter them in speed and wet grip, while Schwalbe Marathon have comparable speed and way better durability, wet grip and puncture protection.

I put 28c Gravel king slicks on my steel "Café bike" (Soma Smoothie Rm) because they were cheap as chips, and have a vintage look about them. I didn't expect much performance wise, nor did I care on that bike, but I have been pleasantly surprised, even with standard butyl tubes they perform really well. Not sure I'd venture onto gravel with them though, despite their name they are firmly a road tyre in those narrower widths (IMO).

My first set i had for 6 month's and gave them to a friend who used them for CMWC in Zurich in July and touring in the Swiss Alps; zero issues with grip in any condition and great puncture protection

Those are comparable to the regular P-Zero Race TLR in wet grip, durability, and puncture resistance. The Pirelli 4S are even better in those aspects, without giving up very much in regards to rolling resistance.

Enjoyed mine briefly until I got a sidewall puncture 300km in.Taking it off left me with bleeding knuckles.They were covered in lots of tiny knicks as well.

But I think they have a quality problem. After putting them on the rim, they throw them aside, 2 out of 3 pieces are bad, I even returned one, it can't be a coincidence. I had to adjust the spokes in the places of greatest vibration, I didn't have to do this before.

I've only ever driven a Continental. Grand Sport or Ultra Sport 2 and later 3. Now I have GP 5000 Tan 28mm for the first time and I am disappointed with the quality of this product. After putting the tires on the rim, they throw them aside, I even returned one piece. The only thing that helped was tightening or loosening the spokes at the point of oscillation - light centering. However, I am afraid that this will probably result in a complete centering of the wheels after dismounting before putting on new tires. Which other tires with TAN sidewall do you recommend? Thinking of trying the Vittoria Corsa Pro Control Pro, 28mm, para-blk-blk G2.0

I used the Vittoria tires and got so many flats. Switched to Schwalbe Marathon+ and don't mind the extra weight, they last forever ...

Im a big fan of the Challenge, I dont see too many people using them. Im using Chicane 33mm on my road/light gravel, but i think ill go with the Gravelgrinder next time.

PZeros made in Italy are excellent. I'm on my second set of 30mm, and the only downside is the price. No complaints otherwise.

Have both GP500 and Pirelli P Zero and as a heavier rider, the P Zero is a better tyre because they are so grippy and keep their form better. I feel like I’m going to rim out on the 5000’s.

That's because the Continentals are lighter by using less rubber (thread thickness) and reinforcement (puncture protection), to be just that little bit faster (when new). I think, for most people, Pirelli have made the better balanced tire.

vittoria zaffiro 25 for me...i thought they were mediocre at best and at the end, it's the best compromise in terms of grip and comfort i've ever had! Obviously, the corsa is better but too fragile! i got no wear and tear on my zaffiro tyres, no punctures of course after 2000km...

Surprised that the GP 4-Seasons are not mentioned. For people who do not race but go back and forth between fast commuting and long rides, they seem to be the most valid compromise between the speed of the GPs and the durability of the Gatorskins - which feel kind of awful for me in terms of speed and grip. For me they last about 4 years or 10.000k - whichever comes first - and I get like two punctures during their lifetime and it's always thorns. I was kind of expecting to see them compared to similar tires, actually.

I was going to say the same thing. Swapped from GP5000’s (they seem to cut and nick far too easily) to 4seasons and find them tough as old boots. A bit slower, a bit heavier, but last much longer.

I prefer the GP 4-season to Gatorskins. I find the hard Gatorskins to be very slippery in the wet.

@@markgalanter1171 Yeap, If one needs that much more robust puncture protection (I live in Greece where the roads are full of broken glass and debris and I'm still ok with 4s) it's between the Gatorskins and their lack of grip in the wet or the awful ride of the Marathon Plus I guess

@@MrAnon-2024 Yes I loved the grip and speed of the 5000s but even if I could stomach going through them that quicker, I wouldn't be equally carefree when riding 100 km away from home. 4 Seasons seem to be the perfect compromise since I'm not the person losing sleep thinking I could be going a tiny bit faster. Still I would be curious to see how similar tyres of other manufacturers are doing these days.

I may be convinced to try the tires featured in this video, if the ones I now ride on disappoint. So far no punctures and these feel quite resilient on my machine - Specialized Turbo, clinchers. I had gatorskins on it before but the bike felt more sluggish and not nearly as popping in accelerations. So I'll probably stick with these until the time comes to upgrade if that's possible. Thanks.

Michelin power cup tlr are better than both the GP5000 and the Pirelli, roll as fast and much better puncture resistance. Was a long time GP5000s tr user and switched due to my size not being available in the shop. Wouldn't go back

For me as I don't like airless Wheels on my Tour I allways trust the Schwalbe Pro one Plus...on my 30 mm Wheels with Tube it's a good Choice together with a Bottle of Spray if there is really a Problem on the wheels

I have tested both, Conti Grand Prix 5000 and the Goodyear Eagle F1/F1 Supersport, and I had the feeling that although I am german and ride Contis for decades (it started with the Conti Grand Prix from the mid 90s that had 18mm as narrowest size, I rode them up to 2001, when they finally disappeared from the market), the Goodyear seem to be a bit faster, and they also fit better to oldschool 13C rims like the good old Campagnolo Shamal HPW from the 90s or early Mavic Cosmic Carbon like the SSC, as the 23mm version only has 21.7mm on those wheels, and for me with having 63kg, they work fine at 6.9bar/100psi in front and a little bit more on the rear. It only was a bit confusing that some "standard" F1 are lighter than some Supersport versions - it is worth to weigt them on the letter scale. I only actually miss the Conti Supersonic, which run way faster than any other tyre - I know bike rolling resistance rated them quite bad, but I think that relates to their measuring procedure, in the real world they are (or were) the fastest Conti tyres ever. Provided you cleaned them after putting on the rim, they also did not get brittle. The ones I still use (NOS) i refresh now and then with Armor All for rubber parts; as I wipe off residues before riding, that does not affect safety, but prorlongues their life.

Got some 23mm GatorSkins with TPU inner tubes for an old Pinarello bike. They run pretty well and i can keep about 40kph with them. I don't do any training beside commuting 15km every day on a cheaper btwin roadbike with Conti Gator Hardshells

My personal favorites are 27mm Challenge Strada Pro handmade tubeless and the 25mm Conti Sprinter Gatorskin tubulars. I use them both. I also use Challenge Baby Limus 33mm CX tubeless.

I have two wheelsets both setup tubeless. Corsa pros on my aero wheelset and gp5000s on the climbing wheelset. I have to say that while the gp5000s seem to be wearing better, the corsa’s are grippier and more supple. I’ll give my vote to Vittoria Corsa Pro graphene 2.0 as the best all round tire where money is no object.

Have you ever tried Cadex tires? I had Cadex race tires on a Cadex wheelset and Cadex gravel tires on my actual Gravel wheel set. I found that the race tires felt like Vittoria Corsa G2 and the Gravel ones like Panaracer's

I used to ride them late 90s early 2000s---Holland made 23mm FORTEZZAS that had high psi capability (though I never went past 120). Good all around tires and different from the usual Michelin and Conti's. I tried the new batch FORTEZZA Senso Xtreme and very satisfied with them as well. Too bad they are now made in the far east I think Thailand?

We have a massive issue with sidewall punctures and slashes. The best tyre I've found so far gor dealing with this? It's a toss up between Vittoria Voraa N.EXT and Specialized Turbos. I had ENVE SES and they didn't handle glass cuts at all. Nor did three sets of Gatorskins. Conti GP 5000 TL would be my tyre od choice, but they are almost impossible to mount properly.

Schwalbe Pro 1 TLE are pretty good, comfortable, durable and roll well. I ride some Pirelli's also so will give the RS's a go. I use Pirelli Cinturato Velo TLR for winter and commuting as very durable and grippy but maybe don't roll as well due to their stickyness.

Good things not cheap, cheap things not good. Just to share my worst experience on Kenda Valkyrie TL, front & rear had inner damage one after another within 1500km of riding. Yeah probably I’d hit a pothole or a rock but the damaged patterns are the same for both tires.

Gatorskins are hard wearing but you'll wish they would give up faster. Terrible tyres. Noticeably slow, and scary in the wet. Michelin pro 4 endurance are much better.

You're absolutely right. Yes, they have decent puncture resistance (but not better than other tires that beat them in every other aspect), but so would tires made out of 2 inch thick hard plastic.

Pirelli Cinturato Velo stronger than Gatorskins (slightly), I also have Michelin Pro 4 service course for 10 years or so, both have good grip. Both slower than GP 5K, but you can't have it all.
