It has its use cases. I bought one years ago not for camping or cooking or boiling anything, in fact I don't even use it for its "intended" purpose at all because there are way more better and cheaper options out there. But I love fire and I live in an apartment with a balcony and this is a perfect little self contained safe system for that. Coupled with only using BBQ flavoured hardwood pellets in the Biolite makes it a very efficient fire with no smoke whatsoever and smells wonderful. About 2 cups of pellets last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour of burn time, it's perfect for sitting around on a cold winters night because it throws out quite a bit of heat and we get to roast marshmallows on our tiny little balcony in the middle of the city. And you also have the added benefit of have a power bank that is constantly charging as a by product of our use case scenario, which is perfect if you want to top up your phone or just plug in the Biolite LED light for some soft ambience while enjoying a little fire. Also a 9kg bag of hardwood pellets last forever at a cost of a couple of dollars making it dirt cheap to operate. The Biolite is perfect for my use case and I reckon that Biolite could have been a great success if their marketing team had thought outside the box of just camping and cooking outdoors.

I’ve had, the stove for about 6 or 7 years. Usually burn regular fir pellets, the same as the pellet stove pellets. We’ve burned sticks, & conifer cones of all sorts, they all work! I keep it in my vehicle, it’s great for a mug-up at a rest stop, or a BBQ at the beach. You must wait, for it to cool, before packing it away, but it doesn’t take long. We’ve also used it, at home on the deck, during a power outage, & it worked great! Be careful dealing with fire! I’m impressed with it! Play carefully, smile often!

I remember working in an outdoor store when biolight first hit the shelves. I love the company and its philanthropic action. Its just a little pricy for me. I cant wait for them to make a budget option

Far from useless but yes outrageously expensive.@@JesusSaves86AB Sierra stove is much more reasonably priced. Lofi stove is more expensive but perhaps worth it.

@@JesusSaves86AB I bought one when they first came out. Had to get on a waiting list to get one. It's a joke compared to other fan powered gasifier stoves. It still smokes up the bottom of your pan whereas my other powered gasifier does not, it burns a clean blue flame, as it should. The Biolite is a yellow wispy flame, just like it shows in photos of it. Save your money, buy something else.

A very fair unbiased review. I have one, only tested it once and found all true. However 4:30 mins to boil? how much water? a single cup full I guess 🤔 I filled the optional kettle up and it took me over 25 mins! Granted it was my first time using it and I think with more time and better understanding I could reduce that time quite a bit but 4:30 mins, maybe for a single cup of tea? Yes it does smoke initially and uses wood quickly on higher fan settings and can be noisy but so can a gas burner. I think people are put off on first use because they expect similar to a gas stove, this is a wood burner and requires attention and patience to learn what works best. Yes it is not light, especially with optional extras, definitely not a lightweight back pack stove! Great for longer term camping, no need for multiple gas canisters. Also great as a mini home BBQ for a singleton likeyself. 🙂 Battery size sucks and a replaceable one would have been good (increase battery = increased weight), however it is adequate to get some charge to your phone or camping lights etc. I'm glad I have it for emergency back up at home and occasional camping stays. I got mine and the optional extras all separately in sperate sales, I doubt I would have purchased had they been full price.

I had one, absolute worst waste of money on gear yet, but not because it's heavy. 1) It's dependant on the fan running, it can't be used without the fan/battery pack piece and always smokes a bunch until it's well lit, even with the fan helping. Best I could do was get it to stop smoking in under 30 seconds or so using an accelerant like alcohol. 2) It has an internal lithium battery pack which charges when having a fire, problem is that lithium doesn't like to charge bellow freezing temps and no one is carrying this bulky thing in their pants pocket. So when you use it bellow freezing it's damaging the battery, which is not replacable and quite small @ 3200mah. 3) The rated capacity is either intentionally falsely advertized, or their QC is very poor. I got the 2+ when they were fairly new and I tested the battery by fully charging it first and then trying to charge my Switch Lite which has the same 3200mah battery rating. The Biolite charged the Switch just over 30% before showing a depleted battery, so about 1/3 the rated capacity when the battery is brand new. It also discharges quickly, depleted from full to 1/3 battery after sitting unused for about a month and a half. I wouldn't care if the battery was somewhat replacable. 4) The plastics looked extremely discolored and stressed after only a few uses. Looked terrible after 30 or so. 5) The whole assembly is bulky and heavy as already mentioned by every review of it. But what isn't mentioned is how long all that bulk takes to cool down, even in freezing temps, a lot of thermal mass compared to a tiny packable lightweight option which is *MUCH* cheaper even if going titanium. 6) (edit) almost forgot this: it can only take tiny twigs, and burns them extremely fast, which makes loading almost impossible if you put a pot for cooking or boiling water on it. You have to remove the pot and throw more twigs in quickly before replacing the pot. It's expensive, innefficient, and therefore an impractical gimmick. I have several backpacking stoves new and old, cheap and expensive, and this Biolite 2+ was the only one I have not kept. I believe "to each their own", but this item is far too niche and not practical.

Your comment of the battery only having 1/3 the rated capacity clearly shows your lack of understanding. Battery charging process is very inefficient, you could never get all the Mah from one pack to the other. Its laws of physics and inherent losses thru the charger, contacts, electrical resistance. etc...Slamming product claims based off a ridiculous stupid "test" proving u dont have a clue what you are commenting on........a youtube standard these days ;(

Biolite is nice but only for luxury car/motorcycle camping imho. Too heavy. Lofi stove is more expensive but actually usable for backpacking I have a picogrill stove 85 which weighs 85g only.
