Very nice. I love salads, but I'm often self-conscious eating them in restaurants. I'll practice my folding!
@HeidiDulebohn12 жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes, at the highest circles they want us folding lettuce if it’s too big of a piece, and it is not the Romain variety. Sometimes Romain is so huge. You can just go ahead and cut that, but the cutting all goes back to that interesting history of metals, changing the flavor, interacting with a salad dressing. Important thing about etiquette is not to take so seriously, and just be reasonable, a kind, decent person, and the rest of the pieces just fall into place. I know you are the kindest of souls. Wishing you a wonderful week! Heidi. 💕💕💕🥗🍴

Thank you for the information! What do you do with a wedge salad?
@HeidiDulebohn12 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Cyndi! Yes, a wedge is a great example of a salad where a knife would make it a lot easier to eat, easily! But, wedge salads came into vogue long after the "rules" were made. In the 1970s the wedge with blue cheese crumbles found its home as a staple in steak houses. Sometimes, you have to be flexible and use a little common sense. I love a good wedge salad, with extra blue cheese crumbles! Great comment, thank you so much, Cyndi! Warmest regards, Heidi

Mam., some food items just won't cut with the knife, no matter how much you try, for example, Pineapple pieces. What should be done in such cases? Would really appreciate a reply.
@HeidiDulebohn1 Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you so much for this terrific comment, and what a great question! You’re right, some foods are very hard to cut, and pineapple slices, because sometimes it’s quite stringy, can be hard to cut with a knife. If you are at a restaurant, and you having trouble cutting, I would ask for a better knife, perhaps even a steak knife would help, but ask for something much sharper than what you have if you’re having trouble cutting the pineapple slice. However, if you are at someone’s home, and you cannot cut the pineapple, I would keep trying, discretely, but, I would not ask the host for a better knife, that could cause offense. Just do the best you can in this situation and if you cannot cut it then just leave it on your plate. Please let me know what you think and how it’s going for you. it really is nice when people cut pineapple into small pieces, next time I serve pineapple I’m going to be very aware of your insightful comment and make sure I cut the pineapple into Chinese bite-size pieces. Sending you best wishes for a lovely day, and I’d be very grateful if you could kindly subscribe, and please keep turning back in for posting new Content all the time. Warm regards, Heidi💕🍍

@HeidiDulebohn1 Жыл бұрын
Hello so much for watching, I’m thrilled you found me! Yes, when you are dining at the highest circles, this is how you would eat salad. A hamburger, though is meant to be finger food, so it is perfectly fine to eat your burger with your hands. However, sometimes lovely gourmet burgers are simply too thick. There’s just too much with the bun etc. to fit into your mouth in a bite. So it’s easy to use your knife and fork. If you’re watching carbs, the way I do, leave off the top bun, and use your knife and fork to eat the rest of it -like an open face sandwich. Just start cutting piece by piece and you will be as proper as the day is long! But remember a good hamburger is meant to be eaten with your hands, so have a little fun with it. I’d be so happy if you would kindly subscribe to my channel and please watch some of my other videos, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Warm regards, Heidi.💕🍔🍴

What credentials and bonafides does one have to be an Ettiquette Expert?
@HeidiDulebohn1 Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you for watching and asking. Such a terrific question! My answer would be, you could be considered an expert if you spent a lifetime reading Traveling, and experiencing and being trained by known experts in the field. I have spent my lifetime doing exactly that. In addition, I am a graduate of the London Academy of protocol and etiquette, and I hold a masters degree from a European university in protocol, soft diplomacy, and cross-cultural competence. I have executors certificates from Northwestern University, and the Kennedy school at Harvard. I think that combining formal education with a lifetime of experience can make you an expert. However, learning is never finished, you can always keep growing. I want to keep improving and learning, so I am always traveling to experience new cultures. I’m constantly reading to enhance my knowledge, and combined it with the history, the roots of the rules and guidelines and etiquette. .The history and the “why” in etiquette is fascinating! I’m headed to Japan next week to immerse myself in the culture and learn more than I already know about Japanese etiquette. Thank you for asking about this, and I’d be very grateful if you would kindly subscribe to my channel sending best wishes for a lovely day! Warm regards, Heidi💕🌎📚🍽️

I love a good wedge salad, which has its roots in ancient Egypt, believe it, or not, and in the 1970s the steak houses embraced and adored, wedge salads. So. Don't cut lettuce with a knife; fold lettuce with a knife. Lettuce (ph 6) will blacken your knife while tomato (ph 4) won't. I have a better idea. Send your salad back. If it's the kind of place where cutting lettuce matters it should come from the kitchen ready to eat. I'm down with most points of etiquette but neither logic nor flavor support this.
