Hook set downstream, low flat. Your lifting up to set.sometimes to crowded to set low and flat, you need elbow room to set flat

Hey brother, where did you fish at? Kenai, soldotna, or sterling? They all have access to the kenai River. There's a spot in Sterling where you can put off and it's at the confluence of the moose and kenai River and it's an outstanding place to fish. You have one of my favorite channels, but this would be so much more satisfying if it was in 4k. Can you do a drive sometime from Anchorage to wasilla and then maybe down to Hatcher's pass or to sheep Creek in Willow? I was born in Anchorage but I was born and raised in wasilla and I'd love to see it again. I went back for a few years but I haven't been there since 2002.

Basically, your hooking them at 9 o'clock, that's a bad angle for hook set. Cast to 12 oclock and hook at 11 oclock or 10. Better angle for sideways hook set. Your casting over them and swinging into them at 9 o'clock they are 5 feet in front of you in my opinion. Your still killin it. Its workin for you. Do what works for you. I always use less weight than the people around me, I don't want to touch bottom, that's what works for me. Long, 6ft leader, minimal weight gamagatsu hook and bead, cast to 12 or 1 o'clock, 1 o'clock might hang bottom. Just feel it. Cast closer to your feet

I like things vids. I think when flossing slivers or sockeyes when you set the hook set it hard but when it is fighting you want it to baby it. What I mean is go easy on the fish. The last thing you want is a fish to get away. That is one of the worst feelings ever.

20lb leader and yes any bead is fine. The flossing technique is what get the fish. Not the “lure”

You have your drag set too tight, that's why you are losing a lot of fish. You should fight the fish and let it take line sometimes, don't be in a hurry to bring in the fish.

Flossing is what Alaskans call SNAGGING. You can catch lots of sockeye without snagging. When you floss or snag, you injure our native fish.. STOP FLOSSING-SNAGGING...

Sockeye don't feed in freshwater, you have to FLOSS them in the mouth. It's not snagging spark plug
